I think having a heart in his hand would take away from the picture... as it is, it stands parallel to the beginning of kh, where Riku stretches his hand out towards Sora.... Except here, he's sort of drawing you into "the darkness" (the outfit....). Having the eyes as deep and abstract as they are adds to it.... But I digress. It's very symbolic. And very beautiful!

I think this came out great without having the heart in his hand,it reminds me of the opening video from KH1 where Riku wants Sora to join him and then the waves are behind him and stuff.
