Well hey, depending on what year it is, what country you live in, what game you play and how much Ono feels like trolling, you'll get a different result every time you check.

Haha, well I think this video (if you have the time to watch a mini documentary) will settle things once and for all: [link]

Nah, that video has a critical failure mistake at the very beginning.

He does correct his (tiny) mistake in the following video, but he conveniently overlooks the elephant in the room: his whole theory was based on a false premise, and thus is now worthless.

CodeXCDM In reply to Raistlin82 [2012-06-08 17:33:25 +0000 UTC]

...what false premise? Unless he's mistranslating the "newhalf" comment found on her concept art, manual, and the game guide... Pretty sure that nails the coffin on the matter. So far the follow-up is only adding more comments about her MANagement status with Hugo even...

Course, Capcom will leave the debate open because face it, (s)he wouldn't have a character, even less be featured outside being in a stage background.

Nah. You're way off the track.
The false premise is that Capcom US didn't have anything to do with the decision, because (according to him) the first version of the game to come out was the Japanese-only version. And (according to him) that would make the "Capcom Japan changed her into a newhalf half-way through the production process because Capcom US complained about heroes beating up women" theory false (while, in fact, is one of the few things on which pretty much EVERYBODY agrees).
That is not true. The first version was a coin-up that was released around the whole world, so we have no more reason to believe that Capcom US was not involved.
He DOES correct his own (tiny, as I said) mistake in his response video (along with other small, insignificant mistakes), but he fails to acknowledge the elephant in the room: his whole theory is now moot.
I even called him out on this, on the comments of the response video, but he didn't answer.
It's a shame, 'cause the video is actually quite good, and it shows that he's made some research.

There's your coffin nail, right there and then. Happy to help.

PS: that being said, those who say that, since the character was changed from woman to newhalf half-way through the making of them game, she was "originally" woman, and has to be considered such, are still wrong. Not because of obscure historical reveals that turn up to be made-up (like the one in the video), but because of sheer logic: it doesn't matter what the character was through the many stages of the development... it matters what she was when the game came out. Vega/Balrog/Claw was "originally" a medieval knight (Capcom ditched this when they decided SF should be about fighters throughout the world, not through time). Abel was a girlie-loooking fellow. But then, half-way through the production of Street Fighter II and Street Fighter IV, respectively, they were modified to what they are right now.

No, that video was right. I remember reading an interview with a Capcom USA employee who was managing the Western release at the time. He did complain about making the players beat up women in the game, but he also mentioned the developers corrected him by saying they were really transsexuals. He thought that was even harder for people to accept, so he had Poison and Roxy swapped out for Billy and Sid in the SNES version.

Ahem...

THEREFORE... the video was wrong.
Thank you for agreeing with me.

Uff.... this is getting boring.

1) That's just one, LATER, version of the game. They were made transexuals in the rest of the games.
INCLUDING the very FIRST game, which was an arcade, and which was shipped BOTH in Japan AND the USA.
Therefore, Capcom USA intervened FROM THE START, and made them transexuals.

2) The video said the first game was "Japan only", and that was "THE PROOF" that Capcom USA had nothing to do with it.
Later on, the same guy who made the video made another video correcting all the mistakes he made in the first one.
He admitted that he was wrong about that information, but "forgot" to point out that his entire reasoning was faulty because of that.

Therefore... the video was WRONG.
And by the author's own admission, nonetheless.

Your comprehension of THE WORLD AROUND YOU is off.
I suggest you stop stubbornly trying to "win" and start trying to "understand".
Jeez!

PS: LOL, talk about "trying to win". CruiseShipper blocked me so he would have the last word.
So I had to answer here.
Poor little, confused, dumbaby...

Looks like your reading comprehension is off sir. I'd suggest you go back and brush up on it.

Capcom USA did NOT make Poison and Roxy transsexual. All they did was switch them out with Billy and Sid. Therefore, the video was right.

Yeah yeah, that video's valid until Capcom decides to rewrite the character's development history a 50th time.
