well, the pinky is just sticking out, not necessarily holding the bottom of the cup. so index and middle fingers and thumb hold the handle, ring finger holds the bottom of handle, while pinky just sticks out unused, that's how i usually do it.

Gotcha. I remember an episode of Spongebob Squarepants where Patrick insisted that was a sign of 'fanciness', so he and Sponebob went around town with their pinkies out beng 'fancy'.
That's just what comes to mind, along with Mr. 9. And the steyotipical image of a British man with a monicle drinking tea (pinky out) with crumpets saying things like "Pip pip and cheerie-o, gov'ner!". Come to think of it, it also reminds me of Dr. Evil. Now I'm thinking too much.
Personally, I usually use a glass without a handle, so I've never really thought about this. XD
