Description 18 x 24 Oil on Canvas.

This was a commissioned oil. I decided to do the stormy hillside in the background and sunlight hitting the foreground ridge to bring out the horse and rider more.

This is a beautiful piece. It still stuns me how you make everything so real. You have a great talent. P.S. If I have faved a picture and have left no comment it is because for some reason it won't let me. I have been having trouble with this for awhile now.

It is outstanding, really. I don't know what I like most: the blurry background (I very enjoy pictures of stormy/rainy weather in the wilds) or perfectly detailed rider. And there is something else - each time I look at it (which I've been doing for a while before deciding to comment) there is always that weird feeling of content I can't even properly explain.
All in all, you rock

I don't need to ask: Have you ever seen the rain comin' down on a sunny day? I know you have and probably you love how beautiful it is.

Wonderful composition and colors.

This was a commissioned oil. The reference photos they sent to me were in the spring with lush green grass. I wanted to paint her later in the year with the nice orange grasses and sage and such. I added the hillside and the colors because I wanted the contrast to make the horse pop - and it just started evolving into the rainstorm behind.

When I was growing up I spent a lot of time in the desert hunting arrowheads with my family - my dad's one big passion. The rain hitting close by while you are standing in the sunshine is a fairly frequent event on the desert plateaus. The dark storm clouds and the highlighted hillsides with the sun hitting them. Love it. My other memory that I love is the smell of sagebrush after a rain. Waking up at daybreak and stepping out of the tent on a brisk sunny morning, the smell of the damp sagebrush, and meadowlarks singing. Wonderful

Such beautiful memories, that IS life. You were blessed to had the chance to feel what is it really like to be part of nature.

Indeed - That is life. Not the superficial day to day big city living. I feel sorry for people never have the opportunity to be out in the middle of nowhere by themselves and just Be. There is beauty all around us, but we have to be able to just stop, and look, and listen.

Amen to that lady! I completely share your thoughts. This piece reminded me of when I was younger I used to spend some of my afternoons in a similar landscape; I used to watch how the rain traveled across the valley without hitting the hill which I used to climb to see the scenery. It was magic. When it was summer and the rainy days were starting, it was hot enough to evaporate the rain before it reached the ground, the light created rainbows half way between the clouds and the ground. And a fragrance from this little purple flowers (that I don't know how to translate) was in the air, and the bittersweet taste of these chamoy-flavored fruits that grew on these tiny cactus was in my mouth. So beautiful memories.

I love the different textures on the horse - too often you see these smooth and glossy horses and it doesn't look right, but this fits in with the environment perfectly. I love the very subtle downward brushtrokes at the top, it looks like rain but could also just be a very artistic way of rendering the mountains.

Thanks . This painting was a commission of the girl on the horse. The reference photos were of her riding in green grass in the spring. I just started doing the background and it kind of evolved into what it is.
