I haven't really seen my old friend lately, and I think it shows.A Bronze sculpture by David Backhouse, titled Pilgrim. To me, he's the Lone Monk.

An amazing statue and especially meaningful as the "pilgrim" is wrapped in his clothes as though his arms were in a strait jacket. His trance-like pose gives this a double-edged significance and the chase marks on the face look like scars. Wonderful work of art.

Just wonderful. In all weathers, his inner being seemingly untouched and untouchable by the world. A true Monk, a pilgrim consumed by his belief.

He looks a little upset with you. I still find him unsettling for some reason. You did him justice tho.

I think if you saw him in the flesh so to speak, he wouldn't be so unsettling.
The sculptor, David Backhouse, was shown my photos of the Pilgrim/Lone Monk, by Bishop Peter Price. David phoned me and said that I had brought the sculpture to life.

He's taught me a lot about light, shade & angles, and for an inanimate bronze, as you say, shows many moods

When I first met him, the name plaque had been removed, so for those first photos I called the The Lone Monk, and it stuck.

He's missed you Will...
It's so nice to see the Lone Monk again and he brings back fond memories of former times for me. We have seen him in so many weathers, angles and lighting along the way thanks to you.
I'm so pleased to see him again.

It's odd to say, but I missed him as well. He's taught me a lot about light & shade, and how they play a major part in photography.
For an inanimate object to show do much feeling is beyond words.

Ah, but it's a spiritual place, a place where energy is centred, perhaps that held you, contented and enthused there at the time and the monk became a focus to explore.
Maybe he, or the spirit of place, is telling you something now. It's up to you to figure out....
