What if I'm far from home?
Oh, brother
I will hear you call.
What if I lose it all?
Oh, sister
I will help you out!
Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you,
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do.

Othala | Freedoms Flight | Medic

A mass of contradictory feelings flooded her mind and she had no idea whether she should laugh or cry. Maybe her joy was too early, but for the first time in weeks there was hope to find him. One of the recently recruited Flock Members have had an interesting "encounter" with a young horse in the wilds. Othala had coincidentally overheard his story, and so she learned that Jala was in the Wilds. The Quagga was the best friend of her brother, and were you found one of them the other wasn't far away either. Or at least she hoped so.

Thanks to Alec she also had a rough idea were to look for them. If they had stayed at that place she could find him. If he was at his friend's side. If he wasn't dead already...

Too many if's for her taste, but the only chance she had right now.

For a moment she considered to ask Whitaker to accompany her on the search, the Wilds could be a dangerous place and she was still a hopeless case in the matter of self-defense. Deep in her heart she knew that it was only an excuse for not having to go alone. For not face Tegan alone, if she actually could manage to find him. She had abandoned him and the rest of her family, so it was a foolish to expect that he would be overly happy to see her.

With that mixture of excitement, joy and fear she threw herself into the air and every shaky flap of her wings brought er closer to the Wilds. She had only a few hours left before it would get dark. A few hours to find Tegan.

The Wilds were a dangerous place and she hoped that he was alright. He just had to.

At least Othala had one advantage, her wings. The treetops were thick, but she was able to see a little through them and so it took her not too long to find the waterfall were Alec had met Jala.

From here it was her own search.

The dark grey mare spent some time looking for all kind of clues and in the end decided to follow the pair of single hove prints that lead away from the place.

Othala followed the tracks along a thin river course, until the river became a small lake. Here multiple different hove prints blend together. So at least a small group of horses must have escaped from the Flight's attack. The Wilds were anything but a safe place, but at least they were still free. Tegan really could be here. But if he was...what would he say? She wouldn't be able to endure any hate from him. But at the same time she had no right to reproach him because of that. He had all the right to be mad at her. To be honest he should be. She still hated herself for leaving him behind.

Suddenly voices spoke from out of the jungle and she quickly hid beneath the undergrowth. She didn't recognized any of them until...it was him. It was Tegan's voice. Unmistakable but still with an odd undertone in it. An undertone that hadn't been there when she left.

And then, all of a sudden, she stepped into her sight. Tears came to her eyes and she wanted nothing more to jump out of her hiding place and wrap her wings around him.

But he wasn't alone. And so she forced herself to wait patiently. He and the other few horses in his company, all of them strangers to Othala, headed for the little lake.

It was nerve-wrecking to stay motionless in her hideout but in the end, her patience paid out. After some time, the majority of the group left, until only her brother remained. He had a strange expression on his face that broke her heart into pieces. He appeared...lost.

Othala stole herself one more moment were she just watched him from the distance, enjoying the relief over the fact that he seemed unharmed, and send a quick thanks to the gods that she was able to meet him here alone. Then she took in one more, deep breath and stepped out of the coverage with shaky legs.

Tegan stood with his back to her, so he didn't noticed her at first.

"...Tegan...?" she called out silently, but her voice broke. There were so many emotions in her voice, and even more mirrored in her face.

Tegan | Talori | Tenderfoot
(written by intotherealwild )

It took longer than he would have liked for the others to leave, other young kids who were struggling in the midst of a destructive war: a war that had little to do with them. Tegan ruffled his feathers, bringing his piebald wings closer into his sides to shelter his lanky, foal-like figure from the night breeze that was slowly beginning to pick up. The wilds seemed colder than home. The boy flicked his curved ears backwards, listening to the fading footsteps of his friends, Wilbur was a part of the small group; his best friend's brother, the same age as himself, who Tegan seemed to grow just as attached to over the years. The young quagga was struggling, he could tell, Wilbur seemed almost broken, and was definitely taking the flee to the wilds and the uncertainty of their familys' whereabouts harder than Tegan was. Which was saying something, as the small pegasus more than occasionally, just felt lost.

Jala had been gone for a few weeks, and everyone was beginning to get worried, though both Tegan and Wilbur's devastation seemed to bring the mood down even more. Jala was angry, and during the time they spent together at the temple, Tegan almost seemed to be taking on the position of a mediator more so than his striped friend. Their roles seemed to have swapped compared to the years before. Jala had been acting rash, and it was becoming Tegan's job to reign him in, so at his friend's disappearance, the colt couldn't help but feel an unwavering amount of guilt. Guilt.. and hurt. Hurt that his friend would abandon him so shortly after their reunion, and hurt that Jala didn't take the time to converse about his plans. Tegan could only pray that his friend was alright, and that he'd return soon, though even his hope was beginning to waver.

With a sigh, the rustling leaves and subtle clapping sound of the lake's water brought the boy out of his thoughts. The steps of his friends had faded, yet Tegan could feel an eerie presence creeping up on his withers. His green eyes narrowed slightly, and he shifted his gaze behind him, looking through the corner of his lashes just in time to catch a glimpse of a dark figure emerging from the brush. His heart jumped into his throat, and a  sense of fear rushed over him that was much more familiar than it should be for a boy of hardly thirteen. He swung around with his ears back, and in that moment, he could feel a sense of familiarity waft through him, a sense of family that he so desperately missed. No more than a whisper, yet he could hear his eldest sister calling him as if she was screaming. Blood pounded in his ears as his jaw dropped, and his stomach was invaded by butterflies, "O.. Othala?" he gasped.

Oh, how he had missed her, so much that he couldn't refrain himself from bounding over to her and stretching his multi-colored neck over her tall withers in a makeshift hug. Perhaps a bad idea in hindsight, as the colt had little idea where his sister had been or where her's allegiance now lied, but in that moment, that rush of emotions, it didn't seem to matter. His idol, his protector, had returned. It made his heart throb with happiness. Happiness.. and confusion.

"W-what are you doing here?" Tegan choked out from between shaking breaths. "I've missed you so much.. Where have you been?"

His voice cracked, mimicking the sound of his younger self as he tried to hold back a sob. His head pounded, but Othala was back, and that's all his fragile mind had room to consider.
