Description This was inspired by the fact that we strolled through Carcross, looking for postcards. Turns out, Carcross doesn't have any good postcards of itself. Lots of general Yukon ones and some semi-decent/mediocre ones of Carcross. This is why I decided to capture some "postcard" images that show Carcross. It's not meant to be a serious attempt of course but that's the joke I made when I headed off with my camera. I have a couple of other ones coming up someday.

This view is at the north-shore of the short Nares River. It shows the bridge where the South Klondike Highway crosses the river. Behind the bridge there is Nares Lake and Nares Mountain in the background.

Location: Nares River (north-shore), Carcross, Yukon Territory, Canada

Oh goodness you have captured some wonderful elements here
I love everything, the yellow, the reflection, the old wreck(boat I think), the dramatic sky,
the mountains, the depth of it all

A capture with a story to tell indeed!

Thank you so much for the compliment! I tried to capture the essence of Carcross without overloading the image. When you get feedback like that your heart just makes a jump.

Aw Β thats great and I look forward to more indeed
Especially these places I haven't been and might never get there
Hey heres another place I haven't been yet, I have tried but thats
another story, ~~ Johnstone Canyon in Banff seems pretty spectacular
and many have seen animals there also, like Lynx, bear etc..
And looks pretty cool especially when its frozen, spectacular

Yeah I heard about that one before. I also heard that it's overrun in the summer so it might be a good idea to do now. You can see Lynx's? That's rare because they usually don't show themselves.

Since you live in western Canada (now) you would probably be able to see all those places if you wanted to. Maybe except for some of the tougher hikes.

Yes well its all about time and money
and we are not that young anymore
I have been trying to get hubby back into
the camping mode but he won't have nothing to do with it
but also Holidays are limited in a years time so we do what we can
Definitely trying to see as much of Western Canada before we retire
and move back to Ontario, about three years left...
and then exploring the East Coast is in the plans for sure!

Yeah, you have way less days off work than we do. In central Europe most countries require at least 20-30 payed days off work per year by law. In Germany it's 24 but most people get 28-30. In three years you will have much more time at your hands though.

Haha True most Canadians get only 2 weeks and some lucky ones more!
Well hubby gets three weeks and because
of the way their shifts work (6on -6 off)when he books 6 days off
it gives him 18, so times three, that gives usΒ
one Canadian summer trip, one Winter tropical trip
and one do stuff at home like ATV and kayaking etc... with a short trip
somewhere closer haha!
and I take a few extra by myself to see family,
my favourite when by myself is to go to Vancouver
to explore and see my daughter, its only a 2 hour flight!
well it was ~ Apparently because of all layoffs here in past
2 years not enough flying, I will now have to go through Calgary
which will double the time but not the price, so all good I guess haha!

Oh and yes more time in three years but less money haha, one cannot win
unless one wins the lottery

Sounds not too bad for you! Yeah less money is definitely an issue but you can come by cheap if you want to.

I like all of the different elements in this picture. The way the clouds look, the colors, and just the feeling of the picture altogether. I think it's a better postcard than some of the things that you can buy.

Carcross is lovely. Less than 200 people live here, it has some incredible hikes/scenery and the old "downtown" is quite cute.^^

Another beautiful view
Check out an app called Touchnote.
You buy credits and you send postcards of your own photos from your phone or PC from anywhere in the world. They print it and post it from the nearest country they can to where the card is going.Β

Glad you liked it!

That's interesting! What a cool website, thank you very much! Do you know how much they charge? I can't find anything without making a card or an account first.

Ok
you can buy credits in various amounts
I buy in pounds sterlingΒ
5 credits costs Β£9.95
10 credits costs Β£17.95
20 credits costs Β£34.95Β

and so on
you can buy 40 credits and 100 credits

a postcard costs 1 credit to anywhere in the world with a functioning postal system.Β
It is 2 credits for a greetings card in an envelopeΒ

I hope that helps

you choose your picture for the card
you save people's addresses in your address book and just select from this list when making your card
you then write the message and send it

I love it

That's not as expensive as I thought it would be. That's roughly 3,35 CA$ per postcard. International postage is 2,50 already over here. I will probably make use of the website at some point, thank you so much! Β
