Despite your claimed ineptitude, I found it rather simple to follow and understand. I hadn't thought of using the circular gradients actually, maybe I'll make use of it.

As much as everybody seen to be mentioning them, the circular gradients actually aren't very important. They just save some time with selecting areas, but I used to use regular ones before and the result was just the same.

Well, for me it's a matter of getting smaller areas to look natural, and somehow the thought of using radial and not linear gradients hadn't occurred to me. It also saves some time when shaping the edge of the shadows.

Oooooh, so that's your secret, little bitty gradients. So much better for clean shades than the smudge tool, and plus the gradient tool doesn't like to crash Photoshop.
You might want to emphasize that you're using circular gradients, though, because the regular ones cover the whole layer when you reapply. -.o (And the shortcut to make clipping masks is alt + click the line between the layers you want to clip, if you wanted to maybe add that to the description.)
And honestly, you described things just fine. Points for good grammar, too. <3 I'm going to have to try this out soon~

Yeah, the smudge tool kills my pc when I try to use it, and it's harder to use, so I think this way is better =w=
Well, I used to use the regular ones before, the circular ones just save you the time of selecting the area you want to color (though you'll still have to do it with some parts). (I actully use actions to make those layers, so I don't even go throught that process anymore =w= But thanks for the info~)
Glad it's nicely understandable, I've never been good with explaining stuff =w=; Screwed up grammar kills me >_O But I make a lot of typos :/

You can try making a video tutorial. Thats what I have been doing lately. I find it easier than explaining everything in text.

It wouldn't really work out for me. My english is not that great and I do many random things around while I'm coloring >_O
But thanks for the tip anyway.
