~ Lurtz, the first leader of Saruman's Uruk-hai scouts~

'Great Orcs, who also bore the White Hand of Isengard: that kind is stronger and more fell than all the others."

Uruk-hai, a new breed of Orcs that appeared during the Third Age, were bred by the wizard Saruman the White by his dark arts in the pits of Isengard. In his service the Uruks used the symbol of the White Hand of Isengard on their banners, helmets, and faces.
Although "Lurtz" is not an official character from the books (he was specifically created for the movie "The Fellowship of the Ring"), I wanted to draw him because he's such a memorable presence in the movie and a great representation of these brutal warriors.

This is a continuation of my The Lord of the Rings pencil drawings, for the upcoming Tolkien Tage event in Geldern, 24-26 May: @tolkien.ndrh
