This is gorgeous! I've pretty much spent most of my day browsing through your beautiful art (I'm especially taken with the Aegnor/Andreth pieces- such gorgeous work!) and I was kind of wondering if you'd done Maedhros. He's absolutely my favorite Tolkien character- and part of the reason is that he endured so much in Angband and yet he emerged all the stronger from his ordeal. Someone once said that he went through the forge of Angband and came out a weapon and that's very much the truth.
If it weren't for that dreadful oath, I think he would have been one of the best in Middle-Earth. I won't justify what any of them did, but I am fond of the Feanorians.
He's so expressive in this picture. So determined and hardened to the world and yet not proud at all of what he has had to do because of that oath. It's interesting because the oath almost seemed to become it's own being in The Silmarillion. I think most of the sons of Feanor were decent people in times of peace- with perhaps the exception of Celegorm and Curufin- I think both of them were far too proud for their own good- but that oath just about possessed all of them. Such a powerful theme of what hatred can do once it takes ahold of you.
I would love to see more of this character from you. Maybe Fingon too? Or even the rescue of Maedhros from the Thangorodrim?

This is wonderful- I love the weapon you have made of his arm! Great idea. And his face is so determined but bereft- full of sorrow and horror. He shows such conflict in his face.

Да, верю однозначно. Маэдрос, переживший гибель отца и почти всех братьев, Маэдрос, безумно уставший от клятвы и порождённой ею крови... неверное, именно таким и увидели Маэдроса Элрос и Элронд, увидели и испугались, не могли не испугаться.
Самой трагической фигурой из Феанорингов обычно считают Маглора, - не без причины - но Маэдрос, по-моему, ещё трагичнее.

не знаю, мне показалось, что самым трагическим считают как раз Маэдроса, хотя участь Маглора, если вдуматься, единственного оставшегося в живых после всего, едва ли слаще.., но Маэдрос, верный своим убеждениям до конца, вызывает у меня как-то больше сочувствия и уважения.

The look in his eye is quite fascinating. He looks so grim and steely, but I feel like there's some deep, withering weariness there too. The color and armor is wonderful.

Wow... this is perhaps the most stunning depiction of Maedhros I've ever seen. The expression in his face is so unhappy and yet determined. I hope we will see more of him...

I was impressed by your depiction of Maedhros, in truth I am not an admirer of this character and the Noldor in general. But there is something of different in your drawing which differs from conventional Tolkien's art...Your Maedhros have a kind of strong expressiveness in his features and posture: he is resolute, not a victim of a martyr. I really like this! Elves are not always victims but responsable for their actions ( in my opinion).
Of course great work on your drawing! Do you use black in your paintings, do you paint at first the background or the character? sorry for this questions, it's only my curiosity ^^

I can't say as well that I love very much Feanorians. With this piece I tried to understand this character, he is not only victime or martyr, but he did that he did. I don't think that he loved to kill other children of Iluvatar, but he was convinced in necessity of acting the Oath.
Yes, I use black, this piese is almost grisaille), but I'm oftern use for geting a gray color combination of green and red or blue/orange, or violet/yellow. I always make at first a background close to complete condition, and after that a character, because it is more easy to make according a character to the background than conversely.
Sorry for the late feedbeck, but English is not easy enough for me, hope my explications are more or less clear))

I love what you wrote and also painted. I am myself big Maedhros-fan, but I am sure he was responsible for deeds he did and he was not only victim, but also murderer. This is what makes this character so intersting and attractive, I think.

Щас меня предадут анафеме и тапкам фанаты, но)... голова непропорциональна туловищу и размаху плеч. Особенно учитывая рост Маэдроса. И доспех, облегающий как кожа, нефункционален, даже если это мифрил - от пореза защитит, но не от гематом и сломанных костей, поддоспешник бы хорошо) причем и на тело и на руки
Про шлем понятно, это та же тема, что Ночной Дозор без шапок))
Техника несомненно офигенна. И атмосфера внушает

Спасибо за критику, эх, вот ваши бы слова и на стадии линейного рисунка) В рисунке всё смотрелось нормально, даже с замерами, должна заметить, что голова таки укладывается в росте канонические 8 раз, хотя у него могло быть и больше)
Вот про доспех я поспорю, тут что называется на вкус и цвет. Нарисуй я всё как положено, с поддоспешником, тут же кто нибудь начнёт верещать, мол "а чего такой широкий? он же эльф!" По поводу дизайна доспеха мне представляется что эльфы могли черпать вдохновение в природе, то есть делать панцирь из пластин разного размера и формы на подвижном соединении. Технически это сложно, но у эльфов время было на подобные вещи)) И ещё я думаю, что они всё таки полагались больше на быстроту реакции и движений, чем на прочность доспеха). А шлем -мне не интересно было рисовать, и думаю мало кому интересно было бы на него смотреть, рыжая шевелюра- она всяко лучше), и вообще он тут с девушками воюет). Ну а я предпочитаю визуальные эффекты правде жизни, это уж моя позиция).
На самом деле это первый раз когда я рисовала фигуру в придуманном доспехе в полный рост, промахи впредь учтём)

Хотя так же, как и у людей, вариабельность однозначно есть - встречаются и атлеты, и тростинки у обоих полов, но в целом, я уверена, у взрослых эльфийских мужиков все в порядке с мускулами)) примерно вот так breogan.deviantart.com/art/Elv…
Нивапрос, Нолдор могли уморочиться об доспехи до степени "змеиная кожа", но сомневаюсь, что успели овладеть нанотехнологиями) а насчет полагаться на подвижность... ну это где-то в лесу или боевке 10х10, а в бугурте, когда тебя сов семх сторон заживают и свои и чужие... по мне так лучше и поддоспешник, и доспех покрепче на все части тела)
Хехе, девушка тоже может словчиться и дать по голове)) и без шлема будет грустно даже эпическому герою)) но я понимаю, да)
Конечно, своя позиция - это святое) я так, с позиции эльфа/орка, которого регулярно бьют на играх по живому телу, замечаю
