okay this might be dumb question but i tried this several times. I got 2 scanned images but when i use multiply and overlay, the effect isnt the same as yours.
It seems with your first scan (with the white) sort of gets excluded from the second scan.

Probably mentioned already, but there's a typo in there. I'm pretty sure 'din't' should say 'don't'.
