weeeeell... I really think you should learn a bit about proportions and so should your friend. maybe I'm not the best to set an example but still I think you should try it.. Maybe also try to read a lilttle about shading. I see you were trying to notice the "game" of light and shadow, so I'm convinced of your inner-talent. And again, I wouldn't be a great example, yet please look forward to those advises.
