That background fits pretty good with the characters: the subtle shading youve done seems to match pretty well with the low amount of light there would be in that setting. I also like the coloring on the woman's boots.
A few things to consider:
Looks like the man's eyes are a little too high, at least compared to the woman's, who looks about right.
The man's chest appears a bit "flat" to me; I would stretch the shadow under his right arm more to give him some depth.

It makes me happy to see you're trying to get better at backgrounds. I look at you and relish at what you CAN do with backgrounds because I can't do that.
You'll get better. You practiced drawing people, and you can see how far you've gone since you first started.
