Description It was three am, and Storm was still waiting for Hawk to return home. Just as his gray eyes started to close, he heard a girlish giggle from the door. Breaking from his stupor, Storm looked up to see two non-descript figures enter the room. “Hawk?”, he mumbled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“Uh-oh,” came a soft voice from the from the door; there was a brief scrambling and a masculine “Hey!”, and the lock clicked shut.
Storm got up and flicked on the light, to find himself facing a flustered and thoroughly embarrassed Hawk firmly avoiding his curious eyes, her blonde hair slightly mussed. Storm noticed she was sweating despite the cold night air, and furrowed his brow. Then, somewhere in his mind, the connection was made. ‘Shit,’ Hawk thought at the look of horror on his face, ‘He knows….’
“Hawk,” Storm said, fighting to keep his voice steady, “What were you doing tonight?”
“Well, I… uh… I was just…” Hawk was starting to regret the nights previous engagements at the look of hurt on his face. She hadn’t meant to hurt him…..okay, that was a lie. She had wanted to pay him back for staring at other girls, but now she knew she’d gone too far. Hawk inwardly punched herself for her insensitivity. He would never love her after what she’d just done, and she would be alone…again. She looked up to see her companion still gazing sadly at her and felt her eyes start to fill with tears. ‘Oh, God, not here. Not now….’
Storm turned and headed towards his room, ignoring Hawk softly calling his name. He was through with vying for her affection. She was too independent, too much of a player, even for him. She would do what she wanted when she wanted and didn’t care about his feelings for her. She didn’t need him. ‘Like she ever did,’ Storm thought bitterly. ‘A girl like that would never need a guy like me.’

“God, why do I need him so badly?”, Hawk said to herself while she repeatedly banged her head against the wall.

A week later, Hawk had made up her mind. She had to talk to Storm. Today. She couldn’t get the hurt look in his adorable puppy-dog eyes out of her head. He had been avoiding her all week, and she missed him.
Hawk knocked on Storm’s door timidly, rather unlike herself. Storm didn‘t come to the door, just offered a blunt “Go away Raven. I told you, I don’t want to talk right now.”
“Uh, Storm? It’s me, Hawk.”, she called through the door. There was no answer this time, but she was sure Storm had heard her, for all noise inside the room had ceased. “What do you want?” Hawk cringed at the harshness in his voice. Apparently he was still upset. “I just wanted to talk to you about….about the other night.” Hawk said cautiously. She had to be careful; Storm could be dangerous when he was angry.
After a long pause, Storm murmured a sullen “Come in,”, and Hawk opened the door with a sigh of relief. She found him sitting cross-legged on the floor making small tornados with his finger. He looked up when she came in and ran a hand through his blonde hair, causing it to crackle slightly. Hawk hovered uneasily in the doorway.
“Well……?” Storm said expectantly, still twirling tunnels of wind with his hand. He had thought a lot about what happened a few days back. He had come to the conclusion that chasing after Hawk was pointless. She was going to do as she pleased and there was nothing he or anyone else could do about it. It had hurt to accept this fact, but, as Storm told himself, it was the inevitable truth. Hawk would never love him.
Yet somewhere in his mind Storm knew she did. The way Hawk looked at him sometimes, it was like he was the only one she could see. Stop being stupid, Storm scolded himself, She doesn’t love you. Never has, never will. End of story.
“S-Storm?” Hawk was still standing in the doorway.  She had noticed a slight change in Storm’s demeanor. He had gone from someone depressed and distracted to someone harder, harsher. Hawk recoiled slightly as he looked up at her with a steely gaze from his position on the floor.
“Well?” he repeated, “Did you come here to tell me something, or just stand there?” There was no hint of the usual humor in his voice. Hawk shivered slightly and took a step back. “N-Never mind. Umm… goodnight.”
“Wait, Hawk? I- I need to talk to you.” Some of the warmth had seeped back into his speech. Hawk approached him warily, still mindful of his unstable condition. She didn’t want to handle another freak lightning storm or tornado. She hesitantly stepped over the threshold and sat down next to him on the hard wooden floor.
“Well….?”
