Description (2012), 9"x12", pencil on paper.

This collage is an illustration for a fanfic from a fellow deviant.

Thank you for giving me some fabulous material to work with.

After discussing with the commissioner whether to choose "my" version of Narcissa or movie canon Narcissa, I decided to go with movie Narcissa. For the composition it seemed better to work with her darker hair for a closer visual relationship with Snape, and to pair the blonde Tonks with Lucius.

I also did not use "my" Tonks, the way I pictured her in the HP Tarot before the movies came out, but to choose movie canon Tonks, which was the commissioner's preference.

Beautifully done, as usual. And interesting to see you do movie Narcissa - you've captured her very well. I've not read the fanfiction so am unfamiliar with the intended characterisation, but Tonks has a very innocent look to her which contrasts effectively with Lucius and Narcissa. I like the way the Narcissa in Snape's arms is giving Lucius and Tonks a sideways glance!

I commend you on fitting so many figure groups in so limited a space without the final piece seeming to crowded. That is in part owed to the simplicity of the negative space, where the deep shadows bring your figures to the fore while also creating depth without too much detail/clutter. That said, the crossed leading on the windows are a fine detail, indeed!

Thank you! You really hit on the main challenge of the piece. The commissioner wanted all three couple groupings and the scene with Voldemort below and was quite specific about it, and it gave me some head-scratching time before I worked out this arrangement. I was afraid that the design would be too cluttered, but I am glad you think it worked out!

I think my favourite part is that Snape/Narcissa embrace - it's very austere, yet very possessive, which is very much their relationship in the fic - fire kept tightly under wraps. And Lucius and Tonks have this interesting vibe, deeply together yet each with their own direction.

I saw Natalia Tena today (Tonks) at the Supanova con in Sydney, and I gave her a copy of the drawing (as well as having her sign one). She adored it and asked me to pass on her admiration. Well deserved indeed!
