Entry to Mega Crisis Contest

Species: Mega Hydrone (evolved from Hydrone )

Type: Water / Dragon / Dark

Pokedex Entry: Tied to ancient legends, Mega Hydrone rule over the deepest of ocean trenches. They enjoy hunting large prey, going as far to annihilate human ships and attack legendary Lugias on a whim. They are able to contract or flair open their frills when communicating, and can control how they want to be seen in dark waters with their bio-luminescence, both with their fin lights and having their yellow scales glow. Even at immense pressures, water to them is just an extension of their body and it is said that their travels can influence the flow of great ocean currents.

Description: I actually didn't have an idea for this Pokemon to begin with but I saw several entries doing a sky dragon theme so then I thought it would be a cool idea to do the opposite with a "deep sea" theme. I've given it more of a fishy feel, taking its nose scales and extending them into a sailfish sort of shape. I did find that with its colours the head started to look similar to Samurott so I tried puting the unique shape of its crown while also moving its feelers to the back of its jaw. I was very close to extending the darker colours to the rest of the body and giving it more of a cobra look, but I felt this deviated from the original design too much and scaled it back so it had the recognizable belly scales (it's also not afraid to go into upper waters so there wasn't a reason to make the entire body a dark colour). Yellow has replaced a lot of the white, this helped dulling the overall look and emphasis the shininess of fish scales and bio-luminescence.
