Description As Dei walked this road again, he smiled. He hadn’t been back here since he and Fuine had met. Honestly, he never intended to be back, he never intended to live past that day. He couldn’t help but think that the world worked in strange ways, though. Things had turned out better than he could ever wish. Thinking back, what should have been the end of his life, was really the beginning;

Dei wondered if today was the day. An assassin, or at least that was his guess, had been following him for the better part of a week. Dei made it easier than need be by continuing to walk the same path every day. He hoped that maybe there was something left to live for, but as he realized his life may be ending soon, he was excited. As the morbid though danced through his mind, he couldn’t help but hate himself. Without noticing, he’d stopped in the middle of the path.

‘Now’, he thought to himself. The assassin didn’t disappoint and Dei sighed in relief as the blade slipped over his neck.

“Do you know what I did?” he questioned. The assassin adjusted his grip on the blade.
“No, it doesn’t matter,” he replied simply.
“I’m suppose it doesn’t. I’m sure it must have been something horrible.”

The assassin was intrigued. He didn’t know what the target had done, that was the truth. He doubted that it was something horrible though. If nothing else, he learned that to be a victim of a hired hit, you weren’t required to do something horrible per say, just extraordinary. He pushed the thought from his mind and put pressure on the blade.

Dei made no sound and did not panic. He let his head roll back to get a look at the assassin before death took him. Fire red hair and gold eyes encased in a hood of black stared back at him. He smiled genuinely, he was ready and his final glimpse of the world was gorgeous. Closing his eyes, he awaited a blade that never came.

In an instant the blade was removed and he was shoved forward.

“Go,” the assassin spoke.
“What?” Dei asked, stunned at the change in the situation.
“Go!” the assassin yelled again. Dei was confused, he didn’t know what was happening. Wouldn’t the assassin be killed for letting him go? What would he do? He didn’t want to continue on with this life, he didn’t want to be alone.

“Hurry up,” the assassin growled and pulled his muffler tighter around his face and turned to go.

“Come with me,” Dei spoke softly.
“What?” the assassin turned around.
“Come with me,” he spoke again, louder this time. He paused as he watched the man before him. He hadn’t left yet so he must be at least considering, he hoped.
“What’s your name?” Dei asked, expecting that the assassin knew his.
He moved so fast then that Dei didn’t even see him flicker up beside him.
“Let’s go,” he replied simply and pulled Dei with him.
Dei was still confused, slightly disoriented about the whole situation at hand. It didn’t seem real, he felt as if he was dreaming. He caught the words as the red head finally spoke though, “it’s Fuine.”

“Hey, you coming?” Fuine yelled down to Dei. He was currently sitting up in the branches of the tree. Dei said he’d meet him 20 minutes ago, so Fuine had come to look for him.

Dei blinked a moment as he was snapped out of his reminiscing. He looked up and smiled as he noticed Fuine in the treetops. He hadn’t worn his muffler today and he smiled back this time.

It was funny how things worked out.

Okay, did things a little differently than usual. So I threw in some background story here for Fuine and Dei Everything in italics is what happened in the past, the non italics are the current day convo. Hope it's not confusing.

Beautiful picture to match the beautiful piece of literature. <33

I love the deep blue of Dei's eyes and the angle of the shot. It matches the story well. <3
