Description The reason so many people hate themselves is because others hate them. It's hard to care about others when you don't care for yourself, and when everyone spends so much time hating on other people it is nearly impossible for these people to not hate themselves. It's a cycle that doesn't stop. People are criticized for who they love, what they dress like and the way they talk. They show someone their artwork, no matter what form of art, and they aren't given a single compliment. They're just told it's horrid. People are judged for their favorite band or their favorite book before they are even given a chance to speak. In a sea of compliments, the insults stand out and they are hard to forget.
Insulting someone does not make you a bigger person. Even if you wait until someone is not present to insult them, you're still hurting them. To some people, it even hurts worse. It's easy to get sucked into the idea that making fun of someone is okay. When you're part of a big group and you see everyone laughing, you want to join in. You don't want to stand out. If you stand out, you'll just become the next person they make fun of. The person that probably goes home at night and cries. They cry and try to feel like they matter, but when all they hear is insult after insult, what are they supposed to think? It's hard to tell yourself yourself that you're beautiful when you don't truly believe it. If you're told day after day that you're fat and ugly, it starts to become reality. Some of these people feel like they have no one to turn to--even if they have best friends. They don't want to bother their friends with their problems. And that's when the pain starts to build. Keeping emotions inside you only makes them hurt more. Eventually the pain and the anger builds until these people do something stupid. Something that will change their lives forever.
Some people take pills and some people cut themselves. Some people take their pain out on others by bullying them, and some learn how to tie a noose. Either way, depression haunts their lives. Sometimes their best friends will turn away from them because they can see the black pit forming in their once-best-friend's heart. Other people will see this and try to help. But no matter how hard they try, they cannot erase the past. To these people, they are exactly what they are told they are.
Useless.
Fat.
Slut.
Faggot.
Idiot.
Ugly.
The list goes on. People are haunted by these words. Even when they grow up, they are haunted by the reminder that they were once called these names. They never forget the words that float in their subconscious, eating them away from the inside. Even the mention of a word can hurt them, regardless of who it is directed to.

And now the part that is directed more at this community--Why? Why do we forget the reason we draw and share our drawings with each other? We are all here to improve, not to be told we're the worst artist or to be told we're the best. This isn't a competition. The world of art is not a competition. Why do some of us seem to take pride in telling others that their drawing is a piece of shit? Do any of you really believe you have a right to call someone else's work ugly? You can dislike it in your own opinion--but not being able to offer a single compliment? If someone asks you what they should fix on a drawing and you just say that it looks like shit--what kind of person does that make you? People trust you to help them get better, not to knock them down.
And why do we feel the need to exclude other people and make fun of them for who they are? We're supposed to be a community. Yes, communities fight once and awhile, but that doesn't mean that we have to exile someone. That doesn't mean that we have to talk about people behind their backs. It means that we can argue sometimes, but we shouldn't have to hide who we are because we're afraid of the others. We should all feel open to be ourselves and not be criticized for it.
But at the same time, we should not expect everyone to like us. We should not believe we are the best artist and therefore cannot be hated. Everyone in this community is learning.  Learning how to work with other people and communicate without annoying all of our peers and learning how to become better artists, no matter what style we choose to pursue. No one is a professional. No one can tell you that your artwork is not worth anything except for yourself. If anyone tells you that your artwork is bad and they can't give you a reason why, they aren't worth your time. If someone tells you that you can't draw and they can't offer tips on how you can improve, they aren't worth your time.
This is a community, and even though communities don't always get along, they also work together to become better than they once were. And that means caring for other's mental health as well. Since we seem to call people names quite a bit.
