Description I made another cage, this one is much prettier than my first. Made from copper wire soldered together, with a copper (plated... ugh cheap) chain and a little bird charm I had lying around. The ring is half of a toggle clasp.

The height of the birdcage is 1 1/4" from the top of the loop to the bottom of the cage, and the top is adorned with a nut and a black cut crystal bead.

What'd you use to solder everything? a small torch or a soldering gun?

Emoeba In reply to Agent-West [2012-02-05 04:49:03 +0000 UTC]

One of my dad's Weller soldering irons. As a big supporter of mine, he kindly let me steal it from his electronics workbench. They're a bit old, but they're really fantastic irons.
[link] That there looks exactly like them.

Weller is an awesome brand. I use their soldering gun dor everything ([link] ). Not exactly like one in the picture, but very similar.

What kinda electronics does your dad do?

Emoeba In reply to Agent-West [2012-02-05 05:24:30 +0000 UTC]

All sorts. Dad's an engineer, he manufactures classic motorcycle parts and likes to play with LED lighting, ham radio, computers, occasionally robotics... a bit of everything. My brother is the same way. I help solder the motorcycle stuff but other than that I just make pretty things and fix my boyfriend's guitar.

ya know how on some cars the headlights flash (not together, but left-right-left-right pattern)? I need a schematic for something similar, exept more like left-left-right-right pattern.

That's one of the things.

I'm gonna sound like Captain Obvious, but have you tried asking Google? (I actually have no idea what you're talking about, my headlights just help me see... unless you mean the blinkers...?)

Agent-West In reply to Emoeba [2012-02-05 23:21:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, have tried google, alot.
[link] Something smilar, only in/with headlights. And chaeper then $40...

Something like this? [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agent-West In reply to Emoeba [2012-02-06 03:17:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, similar. This won't work cause of how the headlights are made, so gotta have the box to make headlights themeselves flash.

Emoeba In reply to Agent-West [2012-02-06 04:02:03 +0000 UTC]

Could you just wire the headlights through the controller?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agent-West In reply to Emoeba [2012-02-06 04:10:46 +0000 UTC]

Probably not since the bulbs there are special strobe bulbs, not an incondecent type.

This one might be easier: a sequential flasher ([link] ). The kit for mustangs is around $100, and will require hacking to work with my Eclipse. So is there a way to build a flasher like that?
Trying to avoid using computers, microcontrollers, and other fancey "junk"...

Emoeba In reply to Agent-West [2012-02-06 05:21:03 +0000 UTC]

I think fancy junk is the only way you can do it... You need drivers just to wire up LEDs...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Agent-West In reply to Emoeba [2012-02-06 05:45:14 +0000 UTC]

There is a way to use capacitors as time delays, and basically have on bulb turn on the next one after a delay. Just have no idea how exactly to make it work all together. And this won't be LED (for now, at least)
