Let's apply this to real life.Tammashii Hiroka met her first boyfrien Justin on the Internet.
They have been dating for months, but had not met yet.
So she asked her mom if she could go to Las Vegas because she knew her boyfriend would visit there too.
So she had her first kiss with her boyfriend in a store, and her mother got mad when she realized that was the reason Tamashii wanted to go to LV.
Does that make Tamashii a fan-girl?

I don't see how Serena having a crush on Ash is a big deal. Misty was implied to like Ash and no one complains about that. At first Serena did seem a bit obsessive over Ash trying to get his approval/opinions a lot and praise every little thing he did but after finding a goal for herself while she still is very much in love with Ash her obsessiveness towards him has decreased considerably. Usually when Ash approves of something or gives his opinions/compliments it's on his own without Serena asking. Despite that crush, Serena's grown nicely as a character, more so than Misty.

I honestly have NEVER thought of it like that, but you are 100% right!!! Team Rocket has followed Ash across 7 regions with some foul intent towards him but NO ONE bats an eye and even likes them (I do too, Jessie and James are more fleshed out than Ash and he's the main character). However Serena follows Ash with nothing but pure/positive intent and she's the punching bag of the fanbase......what?

I do get annoyed from seeing them all of the time. I especially didn't like them from Johto-Sinnoh, I thought they were cool in Unova from them actually being serious/competent/threatening villains over the goofy clowns they were beforehand. They were fine in Kalos being competent but at the same time goofy to balance it out though. As individual characters I do like them all, and think they would be better off without Team Rocket.
