I guess start from the darkest color, preferably black, and choose colors that get progressively lighter. For example, if you're shading warm colors such as reds I'd do this; Start with black, then purple, a dark cherry color, magenta, red, orange, light orange, then yellow and blend them all cx The colors may vary depending on the color scheme though haha. Sorry if that's unclear xD It's hard to explain without demonstrating it x)
