From Trike (me) at Derpybooru: Big Mac made reference to corn cob pipes in Brotherhooves Social, so must be canon. Hasbro has made it clear there will be no tobacco use in the show so itβs just left to our imaginations who does and who doesnβt!

Besides, if it was their intent to have Pinkie & Twilight to imitate Sherlock Holmes & Watson, wouldn't they smoking opium or cocaine instead? Sherlock Holmes (and if I recall right, by extension Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) was known for having a bit of a cocaine habit, and I think Watson had a thing for opium.

Holmes was a shooter rather than a smoker or sniffer.Β
From "The Sign of Four":
Sherlock Holmes took his bottle from the corner of the mantel-piece and his hypodermic syringe from its neat morocco case.Β Β With his long, white, nervous fingers he adjusted the delicate needle, and rolled back his left shirt-cuff. For some little time his eyes rested thoughtfully upon the sinewy forearm and wrist all dotted and scarred with innumerable puncture-marks.Β Finally he thrust the sharp point home, pressed down the tiny piston, and sank back into the velvet-lined arm-chair with a long sigh of satisfaction.

Well... if that's the case I kinda think Rarity is the only one of the mane6 that sorta comes off as a smoker. She has that sort of vibe that she'd be comfortable at a high end, fancy social gathering where guys light cigarettes for the ladies.
