This is a beautifully colored piece. I must say though, the character seems a little disconnected from the background, almost like you did them in different styles. The color and shading in the background give it a lot of depth. I get the feeling that this is a very large, possibly lonely forest. I am not sure what to make of the character. It seems to be tiger-like I think. I assume that it also has wings. (I don't want to be insulting but I really want to know. Does it have porcupine quills on its back?) I think the character has a lot of feeling in its face but I think it could benefit from a little more shading to give the character more depth and give a good perspective of it's size and define the shape.

That's really awesome! The detail in the trees and the colors are wonderful. I always love how you focus your attention on both the background and the character(s). Too many people seem to focus solely on the character(s). >_>
As for critique, maybe you could have pumped up the lighting on him a bit more? I'm thinking something along these lines -> [link] [link] I just think it would be really cool to combine a strong yellowish/warm colored light with a smaller, blue edge/rim light. I see that you have some rim lighting on top of the mane, but it would be cool to see it all around his body. Though that might just be me. >.>
If you don't want your colors to get muddy, you should mix some brighter colors into your shading. See #6 here: [link]
But... yeah! Aside from that, there's nothing else that looks off to me. You did a really great job on drawing him. I recently looked at your work from a year or so ago and, damn, you've really improved. I'd love to see what your art looks like in another year or two.

I've gone an started spending several hours sketching out the characters traditionally and doing lots of, like practice headshots and tiny ugly skeletons on the side and stuff instead of spending 20 minutes pooping out some half-assed digital sketch because I was too excited to work on the background <__<. So it TAKES forever, but it's probably better. Ugh why is MORE TIME 8D always the answer? >__>

When I saw the wip on tumblr, it looked absolutely fantastic already!
I like how the blue toned background compliments the warm browns of the Aysse, and oh dear god, Anne you're backgrounds are absolutely amazing o___o The trees look amazing, and I just love the way you painted the leaves and branches! There's a certain amount of depth as well, which really adds to the painting!
