She breathed deeply.
The world around her shifted through unctuous waves as the sweet-chili orb burned its way lower and lower into a teal embrace. It was her favourite time of day, a glorious spread of scents enveloping her, a much better fare than any breakfast.
Sweet fruity undertones crept into the sun’s spice, dampening its harsh flavour into something softer. Against the berry juice of the sky, sprays of sugarsilk pitted their lucidity as they folded slowly into the richest of vanilla buttercream; a billowing froth of folded peaks.
The sun left a final bite on the horizon before surrendering into a slow explosion of orange zest and crushed raspberry. Shadows danced gleefully in the sharp edge of blackcurrant shot with plumes of cherry and silk.
A fine shroud of honey settled low, swirling the candied tufts of the sky into effervescent saffron crystals edged in a smart lace of cranberry. The forest below was awash with the tang of mango.
Everything seemed suspended in syrup; a glowing maple entombment that passed by on a solemn blackberry pall.
There was a lingering aftertaste of cloves and paprika before finally, finally – velvety liquorice closed its sweeping curtain. A curl of mint ended the cascade with a simple sweetness.

Her glasses flicked idly between limp fingers. This was her ritual, her waking escape from lemon-lime dreams and chalk dust. The scales she collected were an attempt to rival this fleeting banquet of scents but they never seemed to rival its sheer olfactory power, its balance of soft and sharp. But they sated her appetite until the next evening.
Wordlessly she slid from her perch. The familiar peal from her husktop beckoned. She ran her tongue over teeth bared in a grin as her red shades settled back into their customary place on the bridge of her nose. Whoever was pestering her had the evasive scent of something spidery. Maybe Vriska wanted to tell her about the sunset, to rub her nose in her loss of vision.
Well, she had just done that, herself.
And it was D3L1C1OUS.
