Can you feel it running through me?

Your fingers trace my veins
Barely touching the skin at first
(It rises just a bit to meet you halfway)

Deoxygenated blood races through
My skin gives gently in response to your touch
It’s almost to my heart then,

Your fingers pinch it shut.

Pulse
after
pulse
pounds against
No match for your strength,
But my heart continues to strain.

     I panic,    but can’t let go
Carbon dioxide floods my system
My back   c h
             r     e
           a          s in ecstasy

Organs  start  to  shut  down
Fingernails dig into your skin

Brain   begins   to   fail
But... I... won’t... stop... believing.

Lungs    are    screaming    in    a g o n y
And it all fades to black.

I turn blue, and go
       limp
in your arms.
You smile and close my eyes,
Kiss my forehead and walk away,
Mission accomplished.
