Wait, actually, if you think about it...what does Bats call his Robins again? Riiiighht...

Deviation #60

Colored version of: [link]

The only changes I really made from other colored versions are a less anemic-looking skin tone and changing the inside of the cape from red to gold. There was just too much red there and not enough to gold to have enough variation. So instead of Hot Topic Robin ([link] ), we have a more color-balanced, OYL-looking suit (ex: [link] ).
Please tell me what you think.

Lined with Sakura microns, colored with Prismacolor and Copic markers and Dr. Ph. Martin India Inks.
Completed 1/25/09

I like her proportions. I think her big booty and thicker thighs are really cute. ^.^ And the coloring's pretty awesome.

I like drawing pear-shaped women like Mike. The thick thighs say "powerful" to me (and cute, yeah), but then again lil' stick legs coming off an apple bottom wouldn't look right. Either way, it makes her fun to draw and mess with posing.
I based a lot of Mike (mah Robbeh) off my older sister (personality, proportions, and looks to one degree or another).
Really glad you like the colors! This is all markers and India ink-- hopefully I'll get the hang of Photoshop soon and make it look cleaner, no?

You're Robin looks like a fun character based on her expression and pose. :3

I always admire artwork that uses markers, what with the fact that you kind of have limitations to how much you can mess up. I'm definitely afraid to use them.

Oh, Photoshop. There are so many approaches you can go about coloring pictures is sometimes overwhelming for me. o_o; But meh, practice makes perfect! ^_^

She's kind of a tomboy, inasmuch very frank (e.x., regarding "Batman and Son": "So, basically, she date-raped you in the desert, divorced you, bore your subsequent child, and dumped him on your doorstep so she could kidnap the British Prime Minister's wife? Damn, you know how to pick-- shutting up.")
Hopefully I'll get more of her, especially fighting and personality things. Bruce, too, once I finally get his design solidified

I've seen people use markers to degrees I can never imagine-- makes my stuff look like a kid's coloring book, like . Beastly, beastly stuff.
But what you do mess up, you can tweak really quick in Microsoft Paint no problem

I'm just trying to find the right brushes and things, maybe find the stupid dump bucket and where the heck everything is! Confusing little program...is there a good class or online tutorial that you know of that could help? This thing really kicks my butt, but I'd really love to learn how to use it right.

Hahaha! She sounds hilarious! X3

Well I took an Introduction to Digital Media class in my community college, which pretty much just taught me where most of the basic stuff is. There's plenty of tutorials (specific ones, anyways) on deviantart. You could probably try to put "intro tutorial" or something along those lines in the search engine. And use a lot of reference to the help section.

I definitely remember having huge trouble trying to find the paint bucket. If you didn't know, most of all the tools on the left have a little black arrow thing on the bottom right hand corner of the icons. If you hold down on them, a list will appear on the right with more options. The paint bucket is next to the eraser, except it's probably on gradient mode, so if you hold down on it, you'll see it.

That'd be really helpful-- I'm a high school junior at the moment, but hopefully my future college major (illustration/graphic design/animation) will include some kind of digital media class. I have a tablet and all, but i'd really like to find an intro course or tutorial (ahh, your search wording would work better than what I've tried ) to get a little experience.

Really? Huh. Never thought you'd find it there- most people would just have a search engine for the tools, or have something as commonly used as a paint bucket right there, you know? Man...

LaurenSparks In reply to EnfantDeRiviere [2009-04-15 03:26:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I'm sure you'll definitely get a digital art class, especially with the last two majors.

Yeah, there's lots of tutorials on this thing; definitely something I need to look into myself, especially for coloring since I'm no coloring expert whatsoever.

For me, I was recently interested in how to do lineart. I would always use the pen tool, and I would see these people who would have these linearts done so that they look like they were using a variety of pressure on their pen tool. I ended up finding this tutorial ([link] ) which was really helpful for me. You should look it up in case you ever need something like this. :3

Yeah, I never understood why the gradient tool showed instead of the paintbucket at startup. I definitely use the paint bucket so much more than the gradient tool. And a search bar would definitely be a huuuge help.

Well, I"m looking at Georgetown College, and their digital art program looks amazing-- lots of tutorial and prepping programs (PS, Illustrator, Maya, you name it!). I'm excited (if I get in. I'll find out tomorrow if I'm eligible for a scholarship )

Once I finally get some free time tho, I'm definitely looking up what they've got on dA for starters-- then maybe I'll get an easier way to color or re-color my Batman (and other) art. Markers for every color you need (especially Copics) can get expensive, but it gives you the old-school comic book look *is torn*

I really admire people who can do great line art-- this looks like an amazing tutorial! This'll be a great place to start once I get the knack of PS Elements (it's all i've got: came with the tablet )

I KNOW! With such a confusing program, you'd think they'd give the rest of us a break and let us have a search bar, man!
Tricksy hobbitses...

That's pretty awesome, I hope everything works out for ya! :3

Yeah, the whole money issue when it comes to the markers is what gets me. Photoshop is expensive, but at least you can use it over and over, and it never runs out. Maybe if I take some type of illustration class, they'll incorporate it. Not so sure, though.

If i get the time/patience to draw one out or get the tablet working on Photoshop so I can do one digitally, I'll get one up soon enough.

I've got some ideas (ex: what do superheroes wear under those tights?, some training sequences, fight scenes, food-for-thought moments), but it's just a matter of having the time/patience/ability to nail it down.
