These are done in such a lazy, yet amazing style. I love them!

Lazy? I actually took my time on these Oh well, thanks ^^

Compared to your normal stuff they look so simple ;^;
Didn't mean lazy to come out that way, sorry x)

Np, any suggestions on how I can make them not look so lazy/simple?

Oh I don't plan to change it, merely looking to improve ^^
My intention with these portraits was to give the characters more detail than the bg,
since this is usually the first thing people notice with my art, "Nice background!"
So I think I'm probably doing something wrong if lazy/simple are the words used to describe
my attempts to improve on character art. Thats all ^^

Ah yeah, I've noticed the back ground comments!
Personally I believe you're easily talented with both detail in back grounds and characters ):
Why not try making the dragons look bigger than the actual background. If the dragon is a lot smaller then the background will get more attention x)
I sadly was told that in college ;^;
Honestly, I never do see room for improvement in these, maybe if the shading was a little bit darker, no where as bad as mine keep in mind! then I think you'll just shine through even more than you already have!

I'm trying to improve as well, I don't know where to start though
I think I'll do a lot of experimental dumps and see what I like x)

Well thanks ^^ and yeah I've had that said to me before. That the characters could be made a little bigger but
even here in these portraits where they're the main subject, taking up the majority of space. I've had people say to
me, "lighting effect on the stars in the background is just stunning" and honestly thats never encouraging xD It is so easy
to make stars shiney with a simple dodge setting, but it takes a little more time and thought to get shading on characters
to look right and this goes mostly unnoticed. Perhaps nice backgrounds with a dash of dragons are some stereotype that
I'm stuck with, who knows
 I've also read how you tend to do darker pictures, and I've done this before too ^^" When you work that way, then all you
really need to worry about is where the highlights go. Even though there is pre-shading on the character before it goes into
the background. I guess my advice there would be to do a simple light colored bg(even if its only blue skies+grass) and then
place a character into it without such dark pre-shading. I don't know how you work nowadays but if it is a layer you're using
for the shading then try reducing that opacity a bit ^^
Hehe, and I'll also try darker shading with my character art xD

Ahh, you're in a puddle then D:
Hmm... gee I dunno ;^;
I really wish I could help ya x)
Maybe you could do a drawing, but do a few experimentals, colouring and shading the same drawing but with different techniques and see which one works?
Everyone has a style that they build to, some are just flawless and people seem to draw them no problem, then there's others who seem to struggle to achieve what they want
I just seem to rely on layers upon layers to make stars and clouds without effects, and I just can't get them right. Never mind mountains and water, I try to avoid those as much as possible
I don't know how to work photoshop to achieve all that, I rely on two brushes and layer types

Oh gosh yeah... I seem to lower the layer opacity between 80-60% but man, I think it needs to go lower x)
I think the backgrounds are my main problem, I love dark backgrounds, but don't know how to make bright ones look effective.
The struggles are real!

Darker shading always looks nice, just don't do a Niamh and kill it

Hehe yeah, this pretty much what I'm doing now is experimenting. Trying to break the stereotype.
I see ^^ Well, its like you said. Experimenting helps, just have to try not to get discouraged when nothing turns out the way you want. Which has happened to me plenty of times before >.>
 Hmm, well it never hurts to look at photos to see how lighting and colors work in the real world. You don't even have to copy the picture exactly as it is. Just as long as you can get the color pallet you want and the lighter/dark shades to work with o.o
 Anyway yess, indeed they are ;-; lol, and no I don't think you kill it but I'll do my best, thanks xD

I still gotta do my experimentals x)
Sorry for the late reply btw, wasn't home yesterday
Ah thats true, I always seem to give up far too easily
That's true
I gotta burst my imagination with things that aren't dark for once x)
I'll try my best!
I nearly kill it, road kill I think haha x)
But yay, it's no problem!
Thank you as well!
