These are done in such a lazy, yet amazing style. I love them!

Compared to your normal stuff they look so simple ;^;
Didn't mean lazy to come out that way, sorry x)

Oh I don't plan to change it, merely looking to improve ^^
My intention with these portraits was to give the characters more detail than the bg,
since this is usually the first thing people notice with my art, "Nice background!"
So I think I'm probably doing something wrong if lazy/simple are the words used to describe
my attempts to improve on character art. Thats all ^^

Ahh, you're in a puddle then D:
Hmm... gee I dunno ;^;
I really wish I could help ya x)
Maybe you could do a drawing, but do a few experimentals, colouring and shading the same drawing but with different techniques and see which one works?
Everyone has a style that they build to, some are just flawless and people seem to draw them no problem, then there's others who seem to struggle to achieve what they want
I just seem to rely on layers upon layers to make stars and clouds without effects, and I just can't get them right. Never mind mountains and water, I try to avoid those as much as possible
I don't know how to work photoshop to achieve all that, I rely on two brushes and layer types
Oh gosh yeah... I seem to lower the layer opacity between 80-60% but man, I think it needs to go lower x)
I think the backgrounds are my main problem, I love dark backgrounds, but don't know how to make bright ones look effective.
The struggles are real!
Darker shading always looks nice, just don't do a Niamh and kill it

Hehe yeah, this pretty much what I'm doing now is experimenting. Trying to break the stereotype.
I see ^^ Well, its like you said. Experimenting helps, just have to try not to get discouraged when nothing turns out the way you want. Which has happened to me plenty of times before >.>
Hmm, well it never hurts to look at photos to see how lighting and colors work in the real world. You don't even have to copy the picture exactly as it is. Just as long as you can get the color pallet you want and the lighter/dark shades to work with o.o
Anyway yess, indeed they are ;-; lol, and no I don't think you kill it but I'll do my best, thanks xD

Nah, markings are where they should be and all. Even if there were something wrong don't worry about.
I only expect sketches with sketch trades but its nice of you to color it and all, thanks ^^
