Description I'm actually rather proud of this.

...Not so much the title.

Drew Danny there sort of laying down all bored. And then I decided to put him in ghost mode, on a cloud. The using-ice-powers-to-turn-rain-into-snow-thing came about later one, when I couldn't decide what to do with his hand. xD

Not a bad shading job for me, if you ignore the fact that I should quite doing solid dark skies with colored pencils. It's so much easier on the computer...where they have things such as fill buckets.

Danny Phantom is the wonderful creation of Mr. Butch Hartman who airs on Nickelodeon (in a bad timeslot).

Aww, I love it! Danny looks so adorable, lounging on the clouds like that! That's totally something I would do too if I were him Just lounging on the clouds, watching sunrises and sunsets, gazing at the stars (especially with Harry's fascination with the mysteries of space). And turning the rain to snow with his ice powers? Genius idea. I never would have thought of that, but it's totally brilliant

Love love love (not that you should be surprised, I love everything you do! )

I really have no idea where the turning rain to snow with ice powers thing came from...I just wound up drawing it that way. Originally he was just gonna have his arms folded and staring off at something. And before that, he was just flying, not on any clouds at all. Kinda funny how art seems to find a life of its own and turn out completely differently from what you originally intended...

Muchas gracias. Because when you run out of brilliant ways to say "thank you," Spanish is the first thing that comes to mind. Er...yeah.

Seriously, that always seems to happen. Strange huh? Although usually it turns out the better Happens to me with fanfic all the time, like making Dan the main bad guy in ASU instead of Vlad, which would have been a complete catastrophe

lol Si! Espanol es una muy buena option

You should be proud, it's very good. And I think the title fits it perfectly. This is definitely one of my favorites. I really can't express it, but the drawing says alot to me. It makes me wonder what Danny's thinking at the moment, and how he feels and why. As lame as it may sound, it's one of those drawings that speak to you. Not an easy thing to do by the way; I think it's the second picture I've seen on the DA that has that...movement. Sorry, can't explain it. I love the little details as well; the snow crystals are my favorite. I like the black shadding actually. I think it brings out the picture more. It focuses my attention on just Danny; kind of like "the only person left on Earth" sorta vibe.

I think I sort of get what you mean. I've come across a few pictures like that myself. That's sort of how I was feeling when I made this, I guess, and it just shows. Guess it's the inspiration showing through--one thing is you can definitely tell the difference between a picture that was just made to please someone or just for the sake of drawing something, and something drawn with genuine feeling, that the artist did it because he or she really had to make it and get it drawn. Every art form seems to be the same way, you can tell the same thing in stories.

Yes! That's what I meant! You're good! You CAN tell when feeling goes into a story or drawing... this one had a lot of feeling behind it.

Aww, cute!!! Danny looks so relaxed sprawled on a cloud! Creating little snowflake with his ghost powers- now that's just sweet!!

You've got nothing to worry about the BG. I think using colored pencils add more depth to the darkness around Danny than paint buckets. (But I know how annoying it can get to fill in the whole sheet -I love midnight starry BGs too much for my own good. I always run out of blue 'n black pencil crayons before any other colors.) And you did do a great job covering the whole sheet with different shades of black! The little moon with craters looks really cute!! And I think your shading's awesome! The clouds, Danneh's spectral tail, his gloves 'n jumpsuit, his face...

Y'know, I really wanna see what Jack'd say if he saw the snowflakes -in MAY!!! Do you think he'll guess it was a ghost who did it? (But knowing Jack, he prollie will... He practically blames everything on ghosts, after all...)

He's not quite creating the snowflakes...just using his ice powers to crystalize the rain. Interestingly, water is present in all three states of matter in this picture; solid (snowflakes), liquid (rain and the condensed clouds), and gas (the invisible air vapor that you can't see). Now, when you boil the liquid water... *goes off on long chemistry-related tangent* ...And THAT'S why the sky is blue. Any questions? XD

I always run out of black pencils before any other color, too. But, besides my fondness of dark backgrounds, just pictures of penguins and Danny use up lots of black. Sam uses up a lot of black, too. Aha-another reason to love Tucker, he barely uses up any black!

I try really hard to make the shading look nice. Actually, looking at this later, the only real problem I have with it is that the shading's not smooth and natural in the sky around Danny's hand. At the edges, it looks sort of like layers in rock. Ah, well.

The moon's actually the sort of focal point of the piece. It draws the eye. I tried balancing that out with the light from Danny's hand, and putting the stars and snowflakes around them sort of similarly. I should have organized them in the same way, and curved Danny's tail around to point right at them instead of just off the page somewhere, that probably would have helped. And I could've put a sort of halo of light around his hand, like the one around the moon. Dang it. Maybe I should redo this that way...oh, eh, well, whatever. It's fine how it is, I suppose.

You've just given me a brilliant idea with the Jack comment. He probably WOULD think it's a ghost...and no one'd believe him, even though it's the truth. Kinda like Denzel Crocker... "Ghosts, ghosts, ghosts!!" "Fairies, fairies, fairies!!" XDDDD

Anyway...thanks!

Perfect. Perfect!

No, the sky is wonderful--it's just the way the halo filters through the sky when the moon is more than half-full.

How lovely to be up there, and safe from the sting and abuse of weather!

EnigmaticPenguin In reply to Firestar9mm [2007-05-03 00:16:38 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thanks. :embarrased: I didn't mind how the sky around the moon came out--it's the bottom half I don't really like. Uck, coloring around all those raindrops while trying to make it look natural wasn't fun. Why is it that all the things I decide to work hard coloring by hand have to have a big, dark, solid-color background? I'm just struggle with making large spaces look good with dark pencils, I guess.

Safe from the sting and abuse of weather...and making it snow instead of rain. =3 Is it an improvement? Probably. ^_^ Thanks again.

Regardless of whether the background met your expectations, the effort you have put into it is very obvious. You should be proud!

I can so picture Danny up on that cloud, just like the snow, a blessing in the night.

When all else fails, small white circles pass wonderfully as snow. I cheated with that here, actually, and only did a few "real" snowflakes and made the rest circles.

You'll find that the fill bucket may be easier, but it makes stuff look like €?@p. Better touse the pencils.'they look better, p;lus, a fillbucket willnever let you donice things like you did with the sky and the snow crystals. It's just so pretty the way it is. You've got a talent for this, don't start using shortcuts.

EnigmaticPenguin In reply to Scardy [2007-05-03 00:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Nyaww... You're probably right. But it's hard to not want to take shortcuts when you're trying to color most of a regular sized piece of paper black. The shading and small details do come out best with pencils, specially for me, I'm hopeless in making anything look nice that isn't by hand. xD Thanks.

computer art is great, but it takes a long time to learn all the tricks, so it actually takes twice as long to get prficient with the computer art than traditionall means.
But I know what you mean, I once crosshatched an entire piece of paper to near black.More than onceI wish I hadsome sort of fill opion for that one! (Or a thicker pen)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EnigmaticPenguin In reply to Scardy [2007-05-04 01:18:54 +0000 UTC]

Oof...crosshatching wouldn't be fun, either. I should know. [link] That took an annoyingly long time. And it isn't really all that dark. xD

I can definitely vouch for the difficulty of computer art. I mess around with it every once in a while. But everything nice I manage to do is done completely by accident, and I can never figure out how I managed to make it look that way later. I'll never get how people manage to make such fantastic things on the computer. Really.

Crosshatching just looks so good at the end of the day. My one pic took me two weeks to finish, but I hatched that thing like it was my baby.Once my scanner is back in my arms I'll be eager to show it off.
