Description Phidippus otiosus
Canopy jumping spider
adult male
....................

A rather small strain found in Georgia, I think.  The males are particularly small, about half the size of the female I have.  I was lucky enough to get 2 males from Don over at www.phids.net.  These are apparently nothing like the Florida variation, which I should have a few of in the next few months.  I've been using a 24mm Nikkor (Ai-s) lens reversed for my macro lately, and have just started using twin flash as well, though this was still shot with a single unit.

No, that is a jumping spider. It can bite but it isn't poisonous.

Are they poisonous?

No, they are not.  Only the bigger variations (other Phidippus species) have fangs big enough to penetrate human skin... most Salticidae are so small that their fangs' diameter is actually smaller than a needle point
