Description
once, I caught the rain from the sky
in a paper cup from a fast food outlet.
you always loved the rain,
and storms. just the way you loved me:
violent unpredictable elusive beautiful.
(i think that day the rain sunk into my bones
and i was cold every day after that.)

once, i showed you my cup of rain
straight from the sky.
rain before it had hit the ground,
before it became just water.
you kissed the air above your palm
and closed your fist.
you opened the lid of my cup of rain
and emptied that loved air inside.
(i didn’t open that cup again,
not once.)

once, you kissed me, like you kissed the air,
and i didn’t feel it that time either.
sometimes i wondered if
you really had kissed the air because
i could never feel that warmth i expected
from your honey mouth.

and then you left.

(i opened my cup of rain that day,
and felt your kiss flutter through my window.)
