Description Name: Shiroyanagi Kane (Last name - First name)
Age: 22
Rank: Tamer
Physical Description: Kane is tall. Like, "140 cm" tall.
Accessories:
-> A pauldron (1), an armor-type accessory similar to the shoulder segment of a knight's armor, fits comfortably on Kane's left shoulder, a brown leather strap going down and across to just below the pectoral area and back up the other side. The pauldron doubles as a place to hold six occupied pokeballs, the max any trainer is allowed to carry. It's true that if speed is of the essence in a situation it takes a bit of time to swing one's hand up there, but Kane's managed it so far, and likes the feeling of protection the pauldron brings. The pauldron does not rust, and the automatic pokeball latching feature uses a spring mechanism. The inside of the pauldron is lined with leather.
-> A wristwatch (1), with the added elements of a stopwatch, a timer, an alarm clock, an automatic self-correction feature that corrects the time of the watch every six hours according to the nuclear clock located on the mainland, and a backlight (^.^). Battery life is three days.
->
Hobbies: Kane, in whatever spare time the tamer has outside of work, loves to listen to audio-books, and carries around at least three at all times. The Discman and Walkman that are used for this purpose are both old, but well-maintained, no thanks to Shiroyanagi's dedication to this hobby. In addition, Kane has been known to research new training strategies that are being used all across the globe - whatever techniques the tamer can't witness personally are searched for using any and all media sources at hand.

Pokemon:
Note: Kane seems to have built this team based on each pokemon's ability to use attacks outside of battle (OoB) in a useful manner. In short, this is a travelling trainer's "practical" team for crossing any terrain.

1. Mr. Mime ("Charades") Male
- Attacks: Surf, Protect, Thunder, Substitute
- Hold Item: [link] Cleanse Tag -- "When held by a Pokemon, wild Pokemon will be encountered less often."
- Ability: Own Tempo
- Nature: Quiet
- History/Bio: Charades is a special Mr. Mime, considered by some to be the epitome of what a Mr. Mime should be - a natural mute. Born with this affliction, Charades learned very quickly to rely on his imagination and wits to communicate with his fellow Pokemon. His inability to speak landed the poor Mime in trouble many times during the Pokemon's growing years - naturally curious, Charades would often get stuck somewhere in his surroundings, and, being unable to cry for help, had to resort to being creative with his miming. Out of these experiences grew two traits that have become a large part of Charades' life - an evolved miming ability, and a stunning degree of patience and calm under pressure. Combined, these two traits made Charades a formidable force in the wild, where his extensive imagination gave him considerable edge (sometimes literally) over his more verbal opponents, and his intense calm allowing him to develop plans to work himself out of tight situations. As Fate would have it, Charades' first encounter with a trainer - Kane - was a startling revelation to the Mime. He realized just how much he could evolve (figuratively) if he could see humans interacting with each other and the many wondrous things that humans have invented. Kane, who's adopted mother had taught to think outside the box, was another revelation in itself - another being, (and a human, no less!) who had just as great an imagination as Charades himself. Sufficiently impressed with what the trainer offered, Charades challenged Kane to a battle... and lost, delighting the formerly undefeated Mr. Mime even further. And so, Charades became a part of Kane's team, a specialist in environmental manipulation and tactics.
- OoB Application: Charades is, undoubtedly, the king of terrain control in Kane's team , especially as his advanced miming ability allows him to create invisible objects (including walls, of course) out of thin air. He is especially proficient in navigating forests and mountains, and in theory, is able to mimic the attacks of any pokemon that reside in those areas. However, the area in which Charades really shines is the sea, and an unprecedented use for the invisible walls that Mr. Mime's are so famous for - surfing. Charades can create a specially designed invisible wall, then manipulate it with his hands and lay it horizontally on the sea, which he can then proceed to surf on. As a final touch, his large, broad hands are perfect for paddling through water. Charades himself came up with this idea, negating the need for Kane to catch a Water Pokemon and train it to surf. The Mr. Mime is also somewhat handy with tools - once shown how to use a tool, Charades is hard to surpass in the tool's use and creative applications of its use.

2. Rapidash ("Apolla") Female
- Attacks:
- Hold Item: [link] Quick Claw -- "When held by a Pokemon, a preemptive attack may occur."
- Ability: Flash Fire
- Nature: Sassy
- History/Bio: Kane's first pokemon, Apolla was introduced to the trainer as a Ponyta, the ten-year old's birthday gift.
- OoB Application: [[Fiery mane and everything else good for starting campfires and keeping Kane warm in cold places. Faster than a bike across flat, solid earth, and able to cross lava without any problems. Flash Fire ability keeps Kane from feeling the heat in hot environments like a noontime Desert or the insides of a Volcano.]]

3. Absol ("Barghest") Male
- Attacks:
- Hold Item: [link] Scope Lens -- "When held, it is easier for a Pokemon to Critical Hit."
- Ability: Pressure
- Nature: Careful
- History/Bio:
- OoB Application: [[Coupled with Charades, is the resident expert on all non-flat terrain, especially caves and mountains, and is able to 'sense' hidden things within those environs. Ability to sense the arrival of natural disasters a life-saver on the rare occasion, but is careful enough to be able to sense other dangers as well. Excellent hunter and forager.]]

4. Machop [link] ("Limber") Male
[link]
- Attacks: Data Not Available
- Hold Item: [link] Everstone -- "A mysterious rock that prevents a Pokemon from evolving when held."
- Ability: Guts
- Nature: Naive
- History/Bio: Although "old" by count of the average lifespan of the Machop-Machoke-Machamp line, Limber is still as spry, energetic, and eager to learn as he was when Shiroyanagi Hiroshi, Kane's adoptive parent, first caught him. The reason that Shiroyanagi-san never evolved Limber, despite the obvious limitations on physical statistics, is because the former Gym Leader belived that earlier evolution stages of a Pokemon retain the same adaptability and psychological malleability that they originally started with as "babies" and "children". In the case of Limber, the Machop species of Pokemon has always been well known for their ability to learn many different forms of Martial Arts very quickly, and Hiroshi has bred out a particularly well-rounded Fighting Pokemon that has yet to stop learning. The "catch" of this versatility is Limber's maturity - he fools around and plays as if he hasn't seen countless battles by a Gym Leader's side, retaining a sense of innocence and carefree restlessness that brightens the lives of other Pokemon but makes it very hard to convince the Machop to train... or breed.
As a side note, no Gym Leaders have ever seen Limber use any actual Fighting-type attack except one: the fluid, vaguely Judo-styled Submission technique.
- OoB Application: Limber's massive Strength belies his small, lithe frame, and he can easily maneuver giant boulders out of a mountain path. However, not all stones are turned so easily - he must sometimes smash Rocks that are buried beneath the surface in order to remove them. Limber is also an excellent forager, having a humanoid build, and climbs trees better than some Mankeys. Having the nimble digits of a pre-evolved Fighting type, the Machop makes an excellent helper in all manner of chores, the least of which include setting up for mealtimes.

5. Sandslash ("Sandslash") Female
[link]
- Attacks: Rapid Spin, Sandstorm, Dig, Slash
- Hold Item: [link] King's Rock -- "When held by a Pokemon, its attacks may cause the opponent to flinch."
- Ability: Sand Veil
- Nature: Sassy
- History/Bio: Sandslash was the most brazen and arrogant of her colony, back in the deserts of the mainland continent, and this led to problems with each and every trainer who captured her. Each trainer would always eventually release Sandslash back into the wild, which for some reason, disappointed the ground-type pokemon. However, the twelfth trainer, a particularly cruel man, did not care for Sandslash's attitude and beat her into submission every time she failed one of his training sessions or a battle. Eventually, the man was caught by none other than a young Kane, who was staying at the same Pokecenter as the trainer at the time, and as a reward, Sandslash was given to the surprised trainer. Kane had to work long and hard to help Sandslash earn back her trust of humans, and with time the pokemon even regained her former brash attitude. But the damage had been done, and as a result, Sandslash freezes in fear upon seeing burly, well-toned men like Hikers, as it brings back memories of that heavy hand so long ago. Now, Sandslash is immensely loyal to Kane, and will fight in any battle she can to protect her new, kind trainer. Whenever she loses, or is shaken by the trauma of seeing large trainers, Sandslash will mope for days on end in her disappointment in herself.
- OoB Application: Although it seems as if Sandslash is primarily a battling pokemon, she does serve a more practical purpose for being on the team. All Sandshrew and Sandslash are born with the Sand Veil ability, which allows them to escape the automatic weather damage of a Sandstorm, as well as increasing their speed when a Sandstorm is in progress. On top of that, being a ground-type pokemon with giant claws, Sandslash has a knack for Digging into the ground, through rock walls, or under sand dunes, allowing her and Kane to pass through what might have once been an obstacle of the terrain. As a bonus, Sandslash's huge claws also work as a natural Cut attack, cutting down trees that hinder Kane's progress. Oddly enough, the trees grow back after Kane has left the forest...?

6. Shedinja ("Casket") (No Gender)
- Attacks: Sand-Attack, Confuse Ray, Double Team, Flash
- Hold Item: [link] White Herb -- "When held by a Pokemon, if an ability is lowered, it will be raised back up."
- Ability: Wonder Guard
- Nature: Docile
- History/Bio:
- OoB Application: [[Flash useful for dark places, stays up all night as guard, ghosting allows it to scout ahead and return unharmed for a report.]]

History/Bio: Kane acts as an unofficial "ronin" who wanders the island, keeping a sharp eye out for pokemon poachers, drastic disruption of a pokemon ecosystem, or any other form of trouble that the gym leaders should know about. Through travel, Kane has memorized the location of almost every Pokemon Center and Trainer's Campsite on the island, and is usually on good terms with the people who run them. However, because Kane travels so much, the tamer frequently wanders without the companionship of other trainers, causing temporary bouts of antisocial behavior upon return to a major city or town.

Kane was actually born on the mainland to two loving parents, in a small isolated town surrounded by lush, green forestry. However, at 13 months of age, that small town was devastated by a serial arsenist who was passing through. The fire control team arrived to find Kane, bawling loudly, in a small playpen on the floor of a bedroom. The orphaned baby was the sole survivor of the entire town, and word quickly spread about the "Miracle Child".

Not too long after, the arsenist was caught by a team of Officer Jennys and executed for his crimes.

The young Kane was taken to the nearest orphanage, where the confused and frightened child sat alone as the louder, older, and ruder city orphans played and interacted with each other. One girl, however, took pity on Kane and acted as a big sister for the loner. The girl, a lively child named Tamie, did many things for Kane, teaching the child how to read, the virtues of sharing and politeness, and some of the 'big kids' games that Kane had wistfully watched before. Kane quickly grew to love Tamie, who always had a smile for her new charge, and followed the elder girl everywhere, earning the young orphan the temporary nickname of "Ahiru-chan", or Duckling.

However, they were still staying at an orphanage, and Tamie was eventually adopted by a restauranteer and his wife. Kane, at the age of five, was crushed by the loss of her company, and returned to a loner state, refusing to interact with the other children.

At one point during this time of depression, a newly orphaned 13-year old bully named Kenta (to be continued...)

Quirks: Kane, for some reason, really likes trail mix. Caffeine and sugar has absolutely no effect on the tamer, due to the insane amount of the stuff that was required to stay awake during college. Kane is an audio-oriented person, meaning that the tamer has a tendency to rely on sounds and speech as opposed to signs and movements, bringing out the hobby of listening to audio-books. As a side-effect, Kane also has extensive fines at the Timeston Library, due to travelling around so much. And finally, there is always a faint scent of ash and cinders floating around Kane, which never goes away and powers through perfumes, colognes, and deodorant.
Family: Adopted parent-figure Shiroyanagi Hiroshi of Zansatsuka, former Zansatsuka Gym Leader.

Other: Kane has a lot of respect for Garet Archanus, both for the man's pokemon food creation abilities, and his continued delight in the pokemon world. The tamer doesn't buy any other brands of pokemon food anymore, having found that Garet's has a definite impact on the overall performance of any pokemon. Although Kane would never admit it to anybody else, Garet has become something of a role model for the tamer, and Kane looks forward to seeing Garet develop as a trainer.

(OOC 12/20/04 -- Ugh. Edit later; can't think.

EDIT: 1/7/05 -- Finished quirks and family. Working on more hobbies. EDIT again with Other. EDIT once more with some History/Bio.

1/10/05 -- Started Accessories section. EDIT again with underlining important terms, names, places, and a nonexistant comma that needed to be.

1/12/05 -- Added first known pokemon on Kane's team, a Sandslash, to the list. Sandslash has a personality and background. Who [i>wouldn't[/i> be scared of big, burly pokemon trainers? O_o

1/13/05 -- Ah, that's right... Kane's team is "practical" out of battle, isn't it... Added "Out of Battle" (OoB) section to Pokemon stats.

1/14/05 -- Finished Sandslash's OoB section.

1/19/05 -- Added a description of Sandslash's hold item, and added a picture of Sandslash herself. Well, sort of.

6/15/05 -- Moved the only pokemon I had actually finished planning out for Hiroshi's team to Kane's team... I think he'd make better use of Limber, anyways... I'm not sure what to do about an OOB section, since that seems pretty straightforward, but, I'll come up with something. Eventually. <_<

9/2/06 -- Wow, it's been a while since I've worked on this... ^_^; Added more info to the Mr. Mime that's been sitting in Kane's last Pokemon slot - specifically, info on its Hold Item, the Cleanse Tag. Also, sometime between the between now and the last update I finished Limber's OOB section.
EDIT: Finished Charades (the Mr. Mime) profile, and added a "Nature" and "Ability" sections to each pokemon slot.

2/9/07 -- Holy crap, I'd almost forgotten this existed. o_O; Filled in the remaining Pokemon slots with Casket, Apolla, and Barghest, in that order... I don't remember when I added Casket, though. Filled out a summary of the new guys' OOB sections for future writing, as well as their Abilities, Natures, and Hold Items. Filled out Casket's attack list. Move Charades to the first slot, because he's arguably THE most useful pokemon on the team - updated his OOB with a knack for tools, then switched around his attack list for something a little closer to the game's move list - Surf being an exception, of course. Also, thinking about adding a "Level" section for each Pokemon... because, y'know, it's nice to know.
Kane needs access to some kind of flying pokemon for emergencies, but damned if I have any ideas for how that would work, what with the party being filled and all.)

Oof. Sorry 'bout taking so long to respond - my family went out to Myrtle Beach. We got back yesterday. And your answers are "Yes" and "Who?" Just PM me with details and maybe a reference link or two, and I'll respond with questions and/or trial sprites. I'm assuming this is supposed to be a [Pokemon] trainer sprite?

Mmm. Poor Kane.

We need to make another Pokemon RP... But you need to prove you'd be worthy by resuming activity in the NFC, at least.
