They put a sign above his head and the sign read:"Optimus of Iacon, leader of the Autobots"
this is just a quick sketch, i actually plan on finishing it. but it could stand as it is. It has everything i really wanted in it. unfortunatly when i started it was a thumbnail to get the layout right so it was too small to put the gory details into the crucifiction, such as: the thorn crown the broken armor, the gashes broken windows etc.

the themes have always been there, especially if you delve into the depths of the mythos..
Prime dies sacrificing himself, he returns to save. Prime is one in a line of chosen ones by their creator primus through a relic the matrix a piece of his living essence....
many of our stories, movies book are recreations of familiar mythological and religious themes...
the crucifixion of christ is a powerful image that is filled with many emotions. I feel that the death of optimus prime can and does mirror it. (sometimes)
I felt that the decepticons might not all hate prime but they do what they do because either they are told or the believe they have to for example thundercracker who though is a thug, doesnt agree wholly with the decepticon way. The decepticons are a race that is not above mimicking another just to be cruel, and knowing the autobots close connection to humans would know that this act would demoralize them and drive despair into their sparks.
you dont need to like the art, or what it portrays, but there is nothing horrible about finding mirrors in our modern day myths that reflect important and inspiring moments from our older religions and myths.
