I'm pretty sure I used to say this all the time, but you're pretty much a master at expressions and emotions. Believe it! Take it to the bank and deposit it! (But don't forget a deposit slip or you'll hold up the whole line.)

I hope you donèt mind if I.... like, use the poses? It's just that this is like a scene from me and my friend's RP and I want to draw it badly. I'd credit you for sure.

"...why does drawing people in angsty moments feel so fulfilling?" I could ask the same dang question! xD I love to draw sad sad people too :'I
Then again, who wouldn't feel fulfilled after drawing these sweet, emotional sketches? :')

WE ARE ACURSED TOGETHER THEN
Haha; yes. I think that's what it is really, being able to convey something so powerful, or such a crucial moment and how the character copes with it.
I think it's also a bit of a release when in a similar state. Just gets it out on paper. :> And usually that feels the most fulfilling.

Oops, forgot to answer the question! Sorry, I can't say too much about the circumstances around his death since it gives away too much about several big plot elements. But it was from a traumatic wound sustained in a struggle just a little before this scene.

UUHHHHHHHHMMMMM....... I wasn't actually planning to reveal very much, but I didn't expect people to react as much as they did to the sneak peak, so I'm not exactly sure at this point. XDDD I'm trying to figure out what I'm capable of putting out to keep expectations realistic if this thing really flies off (which would be an overwhelming surprise)

Haha; oh my! That's a lovely compliment, mind you. ;D So "more" as in more info? :> Or like... more stuff similar to this?
OH GAWD. When you say it like that it scares meeeeee XDDDDDDD "like to draw people suffering" LOL. I know I really don't like it in that way (although, I'm sure that's not what you meant XD). But I think what it is, is that I really enjoy being able to express something as powerful as a moment like this for a character. Drawing happy times are blissful, funny times are enjoyable and powerful, moving times are.... fulfilling, in a way. Maybe it can even be said it's a release for similar feelings in the artist too :>

Ohhhh that last panel just kills me...but at the same time I love it |D;; //hithit No but I can completely relate to having angst just...feel satisfactory LOL I dunno but it's nice from time to time |D
I really do love the last picture though! The facial expressions are drawn so well you get the emotion across very clearly. I always feel like drawing expressions are so difficult, especially capturing subtle differences but you do an amazing job! The poses and angles are great too! Fantastic work 8D

hahahah. I knew I wasn't alone. Many thanks! Although, I wield that power carefully ;D You'll never find me creating something... disturbing. Just emotional. Sometimes it's a good release for internal wars in an artist too.
Let me tell yah, I never get it the first time.. v____v;; haha; what I end up doing is knowing how it feels and looks in my brain (although I'm always a bit more flexible with the looks bit since it can never be exact), and I work it and erase it and make changes until it feels the way it should feel to me. She doesn't look pained enough? I widen her mouth, make it more of a grimace. She doesn't look sad enough? I bring the eyebrows down lower, flatter along the top of her eyes. Still not enough? I furrow the skin inbetween her brows etc. etc. I do this even with posture. If it doesn't feel right, I'll erase my work up until that point. It's got to feel right to me, regardless about how I get there ^^

Ahaha yes that's very true!
And thank you for sharing your tips! I'll try to keep that in mind when I try to draw expressions. I have a terrible habit of wanting to drawing everything only once so to me re-drawing is a pain to do. But it is true that if it doesn't work, then I just need to go back and fix it! Thanks for sharing again how you go through your drawing process, it was really informative 8D

EpicMyst In reply to soupkun [2012-11-13 06:59:59 +0000 UTC]
Once you get into the habit of fiddling, it ends up all being about balance. Not being perfectionistic to the point of never finishing (which was me for a looooong while), but never saying 'meh, good enough' when you really know it could look better if you just did this or that.
And then it can all come down to how much you want others to understand what you're trying to get across to them. If it matters how the picture is perceived emotionally and else, then it can really give you the drive to execute it so it's more relatable, or will tug their heartstrings, put them in the picture.
:>
My pleasure!

Hahah; thankies muchly. ^^
I've tended to draw stories like this up until this point, panel-less and in progression. I've actually tried to just add boxes before, but it looks rather awful. I realised rather quickly, and with a bit of professional confirmation, that comic panels are an art themselves that has to be planned, understood and mastered just as much as the drawings within them. :> I'm learning the basics and practicing right now. I've found some references rather illuminating. I'm not going to be anywhere near professional with how I do it, but I think that's okay. Once I start something and understand it I can progress with it as long as I practice.
I'm definitely going to be practicing this ^^

Hey Epic! Glad to see you're still around! And I've got to say, this makes me so jealous~ In the most professional way, mind you.
As always, I love your style. It's so sketchy and pretty, and the details in your expressions are amazing. How on earth did you figure out how to fit in all that detail to your style?
I've got to say the last panel is my favorite, for obvious reasons. The expression and emotion on Kayora is amazing; I can't stop looking at it. It's crazy how much difference a little tic at the corner of the eye or eyebrow makes, and even crazier how you're able to apply that sort of thing so often. (Envious!) And of course, the detail in something as hard to illustrate as tears is crazy. The emotion in the panel is perfect, just because of her, and her expressions from the face to the hands~
And what really caught me at first glance was the perspective. Jared looks amazing for the angle of the picture, and the profile of his face is so great to look at.
Unfortunately I can't say much about the top three pictures, as they seem to be something related to their story. Jared looks to have been holding something, and to have said something, but... Other than that, all I can say is that it makes me curious to know what's going on. And of course, that your style looks great in these small shots too. Jared's expression is heart-wrenching on its own!
All-in-all, it makes me quite curious to know what their story is. And, once again, I must add how envious it makes me. I can just imagine that last panel being animated~ Thank you for sharing!

LIC~ nice to hear from you! :>
I find that to be the case with anime, which is probably why I draw from the style so much. Any little change can make the world of difference. It's minimal and summarized in the best and most potent of ways. It's no wonder I also adore Impressionism as well, I tend to like that kind of idea to art. The necessary things.
I remember working really hard to make his face just right. I worked it until it fell into place. It was as important to get him right as it was for Kayora, since you had to understand at a glance that the life and had gone out in him. It was an interesting challenge, to be sure.
I can clarify a little bit about the other panels. :> Actually, it's all surprisingly simple. There is a lot that happens before this, but the top panel is the moment his fate is sealed and Kayora catches her breath. That slow motion moment when something awful has occur and you start to rush towards them. The second image is of what awaits her, Jared's hand resting on the ground, limply, and her kneeling down over him. The third is where he struggles to stay with her, even in death he is a very strong person and he tries to express something important.
Third panel, of course, is Kayora's moment with herself after it's over. Overwhelmed and unaware that this has become not only the pinnacle point in her life, but in someone else's.
I'm really working hard to get this story going. I've got more work to go first, but I've finally got what I need to get there. There will be definitely more on them from now on. :]
Thanks for the hearty and lovely comment!~
