Shortly after their round ended, Josie trotted the highly energetic Dot out of the arena, gently asking her to stop as soon as they were clear from the crowds. The mare breathed heavily and lowered her nose to reach the grass, but ended up swinging her head back up to look around. She still had excitement in her and it would take the two girl’s effort to calm and cool her down.
Josie swiftly dismounted the mildly sweating Dot and smiled at Angelica, who was approaching them from the stables. Josie led the warmblood towards the Spanish speaking girl.

“She coped incredibly well for her first competition!” She patted the warm neck beside her, “now we wait for results in a few days time.”

“She did look fantastic over those jumps, I agree,” Angelica’s fluent tone accented her soothing voice. She smiled and rubbed Dot’s face before taking the reins to lead her with Josie back to Yawarda’s stables. Dot danced next to the girls, actively looking at the other horses that were being exercised and warmed up.

After jolting around and realising that she was escaping nowhere fast, she steadied and stretched to reach into Angelica’s gillet pocket, nosing around. Angelica nudged the stray muzzle away, giggling to herself. She rummaged around in her pockets and found what Dot would have been looking for; a half-opened packet of polos. She picked one out from the stack and held her palm out flat, and it was soon met with coarse brushing and sniffing of the creature next to her.

Arriving at the stalls, Angelica held Dot outside while Josie unbuckled the saddle, slipping it off over her arm. She readied to put it back in the trailer, although just noticing Dot’s legs.

“Oh, could you grab her tendon boots for me?” She nodded across the saddle and readjusted the weight of the seat.
Angelica moved around the mare’s feet, removing her boots one. She was greeting with an instant flick of Dot’s tail, just skimming her face, when she leant over to her hind legs. Once she had collected them all, she put them on top of the saddle Josie was holding, balancing them as not for them to roll off.

Josie smiled, “Thanks! Just hold her a sec and I’ll come back for the bridle.”
Angelica moved to grasp the reins, but was interrupted by a woman’s voice. She turned her head to face the figure, but Josie stood just in the way to see who it was.

“Josie, dear?”
