Stanuary 2017, Week 1: Home
This started off when I was doing my SeSa piece - posted here at dA - and needed an idea for a Mabel sweater for Stan. @scribefindegil suggested the lighthouse motif, which I loved. (Note for those not in the know: the lighthouse design is based on the lighthouse seen in Stan and Ford's hometown of Glass Shard Beach in the ATOTS flashback.) But since the piece only showed part of the sweater, I jotted down that I wanted to do a pic with the full design when I got some time after the holidays. And I’d have to think of something to do for an actual Mabel sweater for Ford too.
Meanwhile,GarrulousGibberish and @strampunch had an exchange in which the latter suggested a ship for Ford, and Ran suggested the ship from the painting in the kids’ attic room. (Sidenote: who do we figure is responsible for that painting being in the Shack? Ford, or Stan?)
So here we are, and I also realized that this fit the timing for the first week in @stanuary , and the theme!
Because of course, Stan is the steadfast beacon that guides Ford safely home.
But also, Stan is Home. Stan is the one who made Ford’s cabin into the Mystery Shack, imbued it with a personality and a history and made it important to so many people: Soos’s most magical place on earth, Wendy’s refuge from her high-stress family, a place of self-discovery for Dipper and Mabel, a town institution. Stan really is the anchor for the rest, and we saw how devastated they were to lose him. Stan’s light shines a lot brighter than he realizes.
