haven't seen anything out of you in awhile... this is a nice homecoming though. it's complex yet minimalistic at the same time. the colors rule, and i really dig the composition. your blank space is just handled so well here by the interesting shape above. rad stuff...

you knwo I'm no fan of "tech" renders, but this is glorious. It still abides by the rules of internet 3d trends, but, it does it in a vectored, hard edge way. I really appreciate the movement here...you'd think that such a rigid stoic image would keep you focused on one point, but the subtled maroon within the main object really keep things hot...you're even forced to examine the flat grey. A good study for something of the polar oposite nature (hint: keep this fresh attitude, but loosen up and give your computer monitor hell). As always, you've made my day after the paitning all nighter i'm pounding out, this was a nice recess.

thanks luke. im no fan of the tech render ish out there but this just sang out to me as an opportunity to use some of my throw away renders as an experiment to subvert what i consider to be the slightly immature nature of the style... or at least how the style is slutted out nowadays as a chance for kids with photoshop to get their name on a flashy graphic. so i drew back a bit and cut out the crap from a graphic style that is probably both relevant and very powerful when ya consider that there are hordes of tech savy youth out there that feel a connection to the faux spirituality of it all (faux spirituality, *cough* did i just type that?)... hmm. but subversion's a futile battle just like everything else in the art world... i strongly considered adding text post-production to this but retracted it at the last second because i thought it was kinda lame to try to add a message to this as a mere afterthought when i had developed it on a purely aesthetic level. in any event, my content/message/heart is slowly beginning to merge with my guilty attractions to form/color/depth and soon enough theyll find a way to coexist with one another...
but words piss me off most times.. like i mentioned that i wanted to add text to this piece but i decided to take it back because i was looking through some graphic design/art books and realized that most art-based graphic designers were just throwing down their text message over an image, thus hijacking the power of the image as a means to get their own message across. to me, this is either a) genius, or b) a complete lack of creativity... and in my honest opinion, its the latter masquerading as the former. in most cases... especially those cases when the designer refuses to admit what he is really doing is using the image as a crutch for his own inadequecies. But maybe this also speaks about our audience, and how the designer knows that he's got to put together something flashier than the last guy if he wants to be able to communicate to an audience that is schitzophrenic, neurotic, and altogether calloused by most imagery... in that sort of environment, the message/content, is almost always put on the backburner because the aesthetic takes on the primary stress of the design process.... hence, selling a car no longer means that you try to convey that the car in question is safer, more reliable, or faster than the others out there, but instead it becomes about finding the most catchy drum loops, jingles, cinamatographic shots, and word effects that catches the viewers eye... the actual name of the car is the last thing that comes onto the playing field. in the case of an art-designer, it means that he probably designs his images for aesthetic purposes to compete with the popular imagery of the week, and then tries to satisfy himself by retroactively adding in text that he feels has some sort of value, whether it be some violent word, an esoteric phrase, or even his own name...etcetc.
anyways, this is the mess that im sorting through when im making my personal graphics nowadays... and despite my cynicism im quite satisfied with this piece because, to me, it remained honest and simple. thanks for the great comment as always luke.

THANK YOU.
that was the most gorgeous piece of text ever to appear on DA with reference to "3d abstract" as they call it...but that gets to me, you know? what the fuck is abstract about the renders at all? I digress...I can't believe how eloquent that bit was: "I believe it's the latter masquerading as the former". It's so true. I won't deny it: I use text is a TON of my art, both cpu and traditional. Hell, I'm doing self portraits right now (which are turnign out GREAT might I add) that have block font Spainish. And sure, I probably think it IS genius, when in reality it's just more aesthetical bullshit...but i've convinced byself that text is cool, just like the tech kiddies beleive that 3d renders are cool. So how am I any different then they? well, i guess I'm not, and I can almost guarentee you that I'm not going to stop putting text on my works because I think it's cool...and furthermore, woudl I be working in the way that I am if 3d abstract wasn't so slutted around on the internet? Is the work I'm doing really that cool, from inside, or is it actually just the antithesis of what's popular, rendering (pun intended) it just rebelious rhetoric? Fuck, your post was gorgeous, and it really summed up all the feelings we "undesigners"/" antidesigners"/"antil33tists"/" antitrendwhore" artists feel in such a glorious splender.
Damn, you've got me rambling so hard right now I've got to get back to my paintings 'fore I fall off my chair.
THANK you.

Beautiful...it's been a while, glad to see your still here. When I was in second grade we were told to make 16 drawings in 16 boxes of certain things...one of those things was a sky scrapper....not knowing what it was I drew a hellicopter w/ a scooper on the front. I thought they used them to scoop away the clouds...haha inocence is priceless
