Description The royal mile Edinburgh ,Scotland. This building is the tolbooth it served as a council meeting house, courthouse and prison. The present building, erected in 1591 (with Victorian embellishments), now serves as an extension to Huntly House, the city museum on the opposite side of the road.

What an incredible building! I live in Australia where the (westernised) history only goes back 180 years so this photo is amazing!

My great great great grandparents were married at St Johns, Canongate on 25 March 1850. I don't suppose you ever go near there? In my family tree folder I have a little black and white photo that I got from the web. If ever you're passing by (and have your camera, and feel like it) I would love a colour one. I'll have a look through your folder later in case you already have one but have to go help hubby hand up the Christmas lights outside the house now

Yes there are some beautifull buildings ,one of the reasons they still have them so i'm told is because it didn't get bombed in the 2nd world war .

Yup, that is probably true, Edinburgh wasn't bombed in WWII. Liverpool as a City is 800 years old but you will be hard pressed to find any buildings much over 300 years old. And yes Liverpool was heavily bombed in WWII and a lot of buildings were lost.
