Description
I love sprite devamps, especially when done in the crazy old Red/Green style, so I decided to give it a whirl myself
No particular rhyme or reason to the pokes I used, just basically a bunch of my all time favorites minus GenI.It's been so long since I did pixel art... I forgot how fun it could be.
Done with no references so any inaccuracies are actually intentional, I wanted them to look "authentic" after all

I would love for these to be official, though. I subscribe to a dumb clicksite that lets you raise Pokemon, and it lets you select which sprite each one has, and I'm always sad when I remember that's not an in-game feature. I know it'd be nigh-impossible to do, but it'd be amazing. All the Green sprites running around derping at the Pearl sprites, peace and harmony.

The limited palette adds a layer of charm. These could be candies in a package of Pokemon fruit snacks.

Both Dornspace and Chuckle are from the secound generation, with was out on Gameboy Color. Just sayin.

The Red/Green sprites are so different, when comparing then to FireRed/LeafGreen, many are completely different pokemon.
Theses really capture that odd style Red/Green has, there's the the right amount of squashing going on. Most devamps arent thick enough, or have to much facial detail. All of these look damn near perfect; Trubbish, Banette, and Shedinja reaallllllyyy capture what I'm talking about the best.

Yeah, that's what bugs me about a lot of devamps, they basically look like the modern sprite style with a more limited palette when the whole appeal of the R/G sprites to me was the vastly different style they had from the later games, esp. all the weirdly distored proportions and such. I'm glad I was able to capture that!

Exactly. they were more than just a color palette. If anything, I prefer the R/G sprites. Each Pokemon had it's own almost monster-ish look to it, and if you can't capture that then you shouldn't be doing devamps. I'll be looking forward to more of these c:!

Seriously, the original Pokemon sprites, ESPECIALLY from the Japanese Red and Green games, looked really weird. ...Although some looked better then the Red & Blue versions...

I actually love the old Red/Green sprites, and not entirely in an ironic way either... putting aside the weird inaccuracies a lot of them had with the official art they've got this style to them that I really like... even if I can't really explain why X-x
