Being a pup born into a bad situation, Rue needed to learn how to be thick-skinned and to not let others get to her easily. It's not easy for her to open up or trust others; that only comes when someone actually puts in the time and effort. For her, it's best not to think too much about the future and instead just focus on the present and do what she can do now instead of worrying about things. This might make her seem apathetic, as she refuses to acknowledge when someone is panicking about what to do when certain stressful events are on the horizon, but her level-headedness helps her think through immediate struggles and ultimately go with what her gut is telling her. Even if it ends up being wrong, she's found that closing some doors opens other, new opportunities for her. That being said, she has learned to roll with the punches and work around challenging situations by proposing new or perhaps strange solutions to problems; that is, if you can get her to voice her opinion. Rue tends to prefer doing her own thing and is non-confrontational, usually going with the flow and following others' lead unless it seems to not be in her or her friends' best interest. If someone were to do her or her friends wrong, accidentally or on purpose, it would take a very long time for her to accept any apologies or hear them out, depending on the severity of the situation. She can even come across as hostile or completely frigid around that person. While she may act very mature for her age, she is still growing and learning things every day.

Pre-group History
There's not much Rue can say about her puppyhood; there's not much she remembers. However, if you ask Jigsaw , you would know that Rue was born in a puppy mill. She doesn't recall that time very much, as she left at only 5 months old, but she does remember her mother. She imagined she was beautiful once, but being overbred to the point where her teats nearly touched the ground and suffering from malnutrition and infections had taken any zest for life she felt. Rue struggled to get any interaction from her, so she clung to any older dog that made her feel safe. One of those dogs happens to be Jigsaw, who was only 6 months older than little Rue. When the other bully mix escaped, Rue followed without Jigsaw's knowledge. By the time they got far enough away from the property, Rue made herself known to the older dog. With a hopeful tail wag and big puppy eyes, Jigsaw couldn't turn her away.

The duo struggled quite a bit at first. While Jigsaw had learned to hunt from her father, it was still difficult finding enough food to satisfy a growing pup and herself. Needless to say, Rue never complained. She definitely preferred being in the great outdoors than stuck in a sad little cage for the rest of her life. As she got older, Jigsaw had taught her some hunting skills and soon enough they were able to survive just fine. However, being malnourished for a majority of her life had left the pittie mix on the smaller side. By the time she was a year old, Rue learned all she could from Jigsaw, and the pair enjoyed each other's company. They took turns hunting and on the day Jigsaw had left camp to find food, Rue was faced with a dilemma. A dog catcher was prowling around when she was noticed. He'd chased her for some blocks before she finally managed to get away. However, she ended up becoming lost. For weeks, she looked for her mentor, but when it became apparent they were going to be separated for some time, Rue decided to try to get used to living on her own. That only lasted for about a month before she met someone new.

Being raised in a puppy mill had affected her more than she realized. Without Jigsaw there to help her, she found she didn't know how to interact with other dogs. Whenever she was approached or caught the scent of another dog, she would flee. She only continued to close herself off until she met Dogma. The little chihuahua mix had caught her by surprise while she was sleeping and then used Rue to scare off another stray. Dogma saw the pitbull as a means of protection, though Rue definitely wasn't the toughest dog out there. Still, the chatty dog took some pressure off her when it came to communicating with other strays. They traveled together out of convenience, but as Rue learned more about her companion over the five months they traveled together, the fonder she became of her. The duo was getting along just fine when Dogma was suddenly injured; she lost an eye, which made Rue decide that they might be better off joining a pack instead of trying to scrounge up resources to treat her injury.
