2157. The First Contact with a other intelligent species, the Turians, ended with the so named First Contact War. It was created due to misunderstandings and insufficient information on both sides. Fortunately, the Citadel Council then intervened to negotiate a peace and bring the war to an end.
In recent years, though antagonism remains, relations have improved slightly. The two races are now trade partners, and the construction of the SSV Normandy, which was designed and built by engineers of both races, began to mend the antagonism between humans and turians. The Normandy was to become a symbol of peace between the two races.

Commissioned in 2183, the Normandy was initially commanded by an Alliance officer named Elli Zander. After Zander came into conflict with turian chief engineer Octavio Tatum over the limits of the ship's drive core, Zander was removed and David Anderson placed in command. Shortly thereafter, the Normandy was handed over to Commander Shepard when the Commander became the first human Spectre, and served as Shepard's main source of transportation and base of operations.
