Description Another of my nightly Wacom tablet exercises. Because there just aren't enough drepanosaurs around.

Megalancosaurus was a Late Triassic archosauromorph - that is, a distant cousin of crocodiles and dinosaurs. It seems to have been a weird mix of chameleon and spider monkey, with a bird-like head and neck and a curious claw-like thing at the tip of the tail.

Not to be rude, but why is it so skinny?

Well, some arboreal reptiles are pretty skinny. This particular work is quite stylized, so take it with a grain of salt. I'd probably put a bit more flesh on if I was making a seriously accurate one.

Okay. I'd like to see that.

I'm really starting to wonder why the hell certain time periods have certain tendencies.

Why does the Mid-Triassic have so many freaks? Why does the Miocene have so many predators?

Just shows that at times, reality is stranger than fiction.

Drepanosaurs were probably the strangest extinct reptiles. Hook tails, chameleon bodies, anteater arms and bird heads. Weirder than most fantasy animals!

Megalancosaurus actually had mantis arms, that were used to grab its prey, as well as for climbing.

Definitely. Too bad they were small: otherwise they would surely be better known among the public.

Megalancosaurus is not amused. With a name that cumbersome, who would be?

Such cool animals, and they lived in Italy too!
