"Trying to convert people?" What the..... is that really in there? Wow. Just curious, did you actually look up all this stuff in the Bible yourself?

Yes, that's there. It's not worded exactly that way, but it's something like that. The bible considers "trying to convert people" and "teaching the word of the lord" two different things.

This focuses on Judaism, doesn't it? A lot of the alleged 'sins' are ones practiced, or rather, not practiced by jews.
Though, it is a good all around message, and works with most religions that spring from Judaism, such as Christianity, Catholicism, Islam etcetera.
Religion is poisonous.

Well it's not targeting Judaism in particular, just the Old Testament. I'm a Christian myself, so I guess if I had to choose a target religion, Christianity would be it. My main point was all the ridiculous prohibitions of the past, and how we don't care about them, but focus on homosexuality.

Makes sense if it's the Old Testament, considering most modern religion evolved from Judaism.
You do make some great points. Good job.

My pastor was teaching that by his death Jesus stopped the need for all the New Testement rules which were in place to atone for sins. His death took on all our sins instead.
However, you still have to live by Jesus' rules. Which I think makes sense.

It's kind of a slippery slope, because a lot of the rules are vastly outdated. Jesus died over 2000 years ago, and the dynamics of society have changed a lot since then.
Certain rules (like many in the Old Testament) seem to have been made to keep people in line, or make sure that the world population didn't die out. With over 6 billion people, I don't think we'll die out just because there are a few gay couples out there.
I think it matters more that people TRY to be good people, more than it does that they not break a certain rule. I mean a person can follow all of God's (and Jesus') rules, but still be a bad person at heart. Just because someone's homosexual doesn't mean they are a bad person. I'm sure that if you asked many gay people, they would rather be straight, but they just aren't.
In my opinion, we should just leave people to their own devices, so to say. It's not our job to make sure they follow the "Lord's word." They're not hurting anyone by doing what they're doing, or doing wrong by anyone. Whether they face consequences for homosexuality is up to God, and since the game board has changed so much since the New Testament, I think that that's a pretty good idea.

Yeah, I understand what it's like to feel like the odd-one out, being one of the few straight people in my group of high school friends. But the great thing is that people at my old school really don't care what sexuality anyone else is. I mean, there are always those awkward moments like when you see two guys holding hands or something, but that's just because we're used to seeing girls and guys doing it.
And I don't mean to say to leave people to their own devices to decide morality, but to leave them to decide if they follow certain parts of it or not (What I mean by "certain parts" is parts that the law really has rules governing, such as homosexuality or adultery etc). As long as it breaks no laws and doesn't hurt anyone or do wrong by anyone, we should let people make their own choices. God designed us with free-will, and it's our job to use our own discretion to decide what we do.
Besides that, there are issues that are far more taxing on our society than gay marriage. Such as premarital/non-marital sex. For instance, I recently visited my old high school, and saw a girl that I knew; she is 16, and 6 months pregnant. She probably doesn't know how she's going to take care of a baby, and will probably need government assistance. And if she gives it up with no adoptive parents, it ends up in the already broken and overflowing foster care system. Now that DOES hurt people, mostly the baby. The girl is the kind who would decide to raise it on her own, without a father, without a college education because she simply would have no time. I hope that's not the case, but it's very likely that it is.
Gay marriage would actually do a lot of good for the economy, from the taxes that marriage licenses cost alone. We had gay marriage out here in California for a few months, and revenue went up a whole lot in many areas, because same-sex couples were flocking to here to get married.
And it is nice having a real conversation.

Well, I don't think that we should force churches either. But on that note, churches can pretty much deny to marry any straight couple they wish for any reason they see fit, and they do. I don't think churches be forced to do anything, but I do think gay couples should have the option of getting married. They could marry at court houses just as easily as churches. The whole basis of the anti-gay marriage law is a verse in the bible, which negates our "Separation of church and state" as well as the constitution. All men are created equal? Hmm... Then why are rights taken away from a specific group? It just doesn't make sense. There are solutions to every problem, you just have to find them.

Or they could get married at churches that agree with homosexual marriage. As long as everyone's first amendments rights were preserved.
I agree there are solutions. It's too bad that so many people go to extremes and won't look for them.

Yup, it is very unfortunate. I think everyone's constitutional rights should be preserved, and they aren't as of now. It's very unfair.

certain religions...like for example the BLANK religion says you need to seal your self to your family or you wont see them in the afterlife but to seal yourself to your family you must active in the church therefore youre active in the church so you will be with your family in the afterlife...and to me that is power over controlled by the church
