Description So you're homosexual. So sad, the Bible says you shall be stoned to death. Oh noes! But before you go, here's a list of things that are considered "Just as bad" as homosexuality (meaning they require a death sentence). If you're against homosexuality, find the sin that kills you!

Premarital sex

Marrying a woman who is not a virgin

Breaking the sabbath

Trying to convert people

Being stubborn or rebellious to parents

Cursing at your parents

Living in a city that failed to surrender to the Israelites

Not being circumsized (if male, of course)

Eating leavened bread during the Feast of Unleavened Bread

Sexual activity with a woman who is menstruating (or being the woman)

Going to the temple in an unclean state

...and there are more that need not be listed.

Other things prohibited in old testiment:

Eating fat

Eating pork

Wearing clothing woven of more than one kind of cloth

Planting more than one kind of seed in a field

Cutting the hair on the sides of your head or clipping of the edges of your beard (males)

Tattoos

Consulting a psychic or spiritualist (this includes horoscopes, sinners!)

Touching the dead carcass of a pig

For women, speaking in church.

So, as you can see, we're all supposed to be dead.... And we're all probably going to hell.

So whether you've worn a poly-cotton blend, shaved, eaten bacon, been a woman who spoke in church, got inked, eaten a burger, read your horoscope, lived somewhere other than the middle east or wherever the Isrealites are, been a moody teenager, or just plain worked on Sunday, it's your turn to be stoned. Get in line, it's pretty long (you'll probably die waiting to die)!

"Trying to convert people?" What the..... is that really in there? Wow. Just curious, did you actually look up all this stuff in the Bible yourself?

Evlwolf In reply to Ithelda [2010-12-07 14:15:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that's there. It's not worded exactly that way, but it's something like that. The bible considers "trying to convert people" and "teaching the word of the lord" two different things.

This focuses on Judaism, doesn't it? A lot of the alleged 'sins' are ones practiced, or rather, not practiced by jews.

Though, it is a good all around message, and works with most religions that spring from Judaism, such as Christianity, Catholicism, Islam etcetera.

Religion is poisonous.

Evlwolf In reply to VioletisBlue [2010-04-03 08:43:16 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not targeting Judaism in particular, just the Old Testament. I'm a Christian myself, so I guess if I had to choose a target religion, Christianity would be it. My main point was all the ridiculous prohibitions of the past, and how we don't care about them, but focus on homosexuality.

VioletisBlue In reply to Evlwolf [2010-04-03 08:48:16 +0000 UTC]

Makes sense if it's the Old Testament, considering most modern religion evolved from Judaism.

You do make some great points. Good job.

My pastor was teaching that by his death Jesus stopped the need for all the New Testement rules which were in place to atone for sins. His death took on all our sins instead.

However, you still have to live by Jesus' rules. Which I think makes sense.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Evlwolf In reply to Seeker-Mar [2010-04-03 05:38:11 +0000 UTC]

It's kind of a slippery slope, because a lot of the rules are vastly outdated. Jesus died over 2000 years ago, and the dynamics of society have changed a lot since then.

Certain rules (like many in the Old Testament) seem to have been made to keep people in line, or make sure that the world population didn't die out. With over 6 billion people, I don't think we'll die out just because there are a few gay couples out there.

I think it matters more that people TRY to be good people, more than it does that they not break a certain rule. I mean a person can follow all of God's (and Jesus') rules, but still be a bad person at heart. Just because someone's homosexual doesn't mean they are a bad person. I'm sure that if you asked many gay people, they would rather be straight, but they just aren't.

In my opinion, we should just leave people to their own devices, so to say. It's not our job to make sure they follow the "Lord's word." They're not hurting anyone by doing what they're doing, or doing wrong by anyone. Whether they face consequences for homosexuality is up to God, and since the game board has changed so much since the New Testament, I think that that's a pretty good idea.

You make some good points. I have several gay and lesbian friends and they do struggle. Although, my one lesbian friend has a very tight nit group of friends. In some ways I was excluded from for being straight. So it can go both ways.

I think the problem with any religion is when people get hung up on one thing or try to twist it to serve their purposes. If you read the Bible the same theme appears over and over again, which is God wants a relationship with his people. So many people have made it all about their rules that they miss the most important thing. Jesus is clear that it isn't our job to judge but to have a relationship with him and let him work on our own hearts.

However, I think that saying, "we should just leave people to their own devices..." is a slippery slope. In my experience when people try to make their own morality they often end up with a very selfish outlook on life.

I also fear that that view can lead crazy justifications. For example, people who want to hurt children and teens trying to say they are gay (which they usually aren't) as an excuse to abuse children.

Anyway, nice to find someone who can have a discussion on something real.

Yeah, I understand what it's like to feel like the odd-one out, being one of the few straight people in my group of high school friends. But the great thing is that people at my old school really don't care what sexuality anyone else is. I mean, there are always those awkward moments like when you see two guys holding hands or something, but that's just because we're used to seeing girls and guys doing it.

And I don't mean to say to leave people to their own devices to decide morality, but to leave them to decide if they follow certain parts of it or not (What I mean by "certain parts" is parts that the law really has rules governing, such as homosexuality or adultery etc). As long as it breaks no laws and doesn't hurt anyone or do wrong by anyone, we should let people make their own choices. God designed us with free-will, and it's our job to use our own discretion to decide what we do.

Besides that, there are issues that are far more taxing on our society than gay marriage. Such as premarital/non-marital sex. For instance, I recently visited my old high school, and saw a girl that I knew; she is 16, and 6 months pregnant. She probably doesn't know how she's going to take care of a baby, and will probably need government assistance. And if she gives it up with no adoptive parents, it ends up in the already broken and overflowing foster care system. Now that DOES hurt people, mostly the baby. The girl is the kind who would decide to raise it on her own, without a father, without a college education because she simply would have no time. I hope that's not the case, but it's very likely that it is.

Gay marriage would actually do a lot of good for the economy, from the taxes that marriage licenses cost alone. We had gay marriage out here in California for a few months, and revenue went up a whole lot in many areas, because same-sex couples were flocking to here to get married.

And it is nice having a real conversation.

I agree with you in some ways. I think churches or people who judge all the time are missing a key point of scripture...

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. - Matthew 7:3-5

However, I find the argument that, as long as something doesn't hurt someone else then it's fine, questionable. Like adultery. That hurts the person who is cheated on and that person's children too. Or pornography. Maybe the girls don't mind being exploited because they have no self worth but that doesn't make the exploitation okay. Especially when they are really young, like 18. That's just my opinion.

I am completely for equal rights and civil unions for homosexuals. I'm not necessarily for gay "marriage" because I don't think it's okay by our 1st amendment to force churches to marry couples if they feel it's wrong. My former employer is a lesbian and she adopted her two kids and gave them a very good life. I agree completely that same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt. I mean if they meet the same living standards as the straight people who are allowed to adopt then they should be allowed to also adopt.

Just my thoughts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Evlwolf In reply to Seeker-Mar [2010-04-06 07:30:53 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't think that we should force churches either. But on that note, churches can pretty much deny to marry any straight couple they wish for any reason they see fit, and they do. I don't think churches be forced to do anything, but I do think gay couples should have the option of getting married. They could marry at court houses just as easily as churches. The whole basis of the anti-gay marriage law is a verse in the bible, which negates our "Separation of church and state" as well as the constitution. All men are created equal? Hmm... Then why are rights taken away from a specific group? It just doesn't make sense. There are solutions to every problem, you just have to find them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Seeker-Mar In reply to Evlwolf [2010-04-08 01:44:06 +0000 UTC]

Or they could get married at churches that agree with homosexual marriage. As long as everyone's first amendments rights were preserved.

I agree there are solutions. It's too bad that so many people go to extremes and won't look for them.
