New Protocol for Security at Traveler Gates

Due to a recent incident, the protocol of the Traveler Gates has been revised. It is advised that all security that works at or near the Traveler Gates read this notice and put the revised steps into effect immediately. The revisions are for Admitting Travelers section of the training, the Releasing Travelers section remains the same. The three points of confirmation for Releasing Travelers works perfectly and will remain in effect. The specific part of the Admitting Travelers section that is being revised is the opening of the outer door. Security working the Traveler Gates will no longer open outer doors when a Traveler appears. Instead, the security must get a facial identification of the traveler before admitting them. It is preferred that at least two security members see and agree on the facial confirmation before admitting the traveler. If the traveler does not give facial confirmation, the security must not open the outer doors. If they give facial confirmation, the outer doors may be opened and the traveler can be locked inside. Once the traveler has entered the wall holding chamber, security must now use the intercom to ask the traveler three questions. Questions are simple and basic, and must be asked before opening the inner doors. The three questions can be any from the list below, and security is advised to switch which ones are used and in what order.

-What is your name?
-What is your occupation?
-When did you exit a settlement?
-What is your favorite color?
-How old are you?
-What was the purpose of your travels?
(More questions may be added, and some may be removed. Look out for further notices)
The answers to these questions do not matter, what matters is that the answers make sense. Once the traveler has answered this questions, security may open the inner door and allow the traveler into the settlement for a quick debriefing. After the three questions, the protocol resumes as normal. If the traveler does not answer the questions in a normal manner, security is advised to call the emergency number and request for extension 39.

We are aware of the pressure the security on the Traveler Gates are under when travelers arrive with Aviatons nearby. We know it is human nature to let them in when they are pursued. But facial confirmation must be established before the outer gates can be opened. Even with Aviatons closing in, the protocol must be followed. If they do not give facial confirmation DO NOT OPEN THE DOORS. We understand that this is difficult for everyone, but security is our number one priority, and we must always remember that. If you do not think you can handle a situation like this, we advise you to contact a superior and talk it out with them.

Traveler Gate Incident

To Researching Personnel

To those who are unaware, an incident has recently occurred at the Station 3 Traveler Gate. It was reported that a robed traveler in the wilderness had approached the gate with Aviatons in close pursuit. The traveler began to bang on the outer door and scream for help as the Aviatons began closing in. Security personnel at the time stated that they thought it was a woman due to the high-pitched screaming and shouting. Noticing that the Aviatons were almost upon her, and her obvious panic, security opened the outer doors and let her in. Security was able to seal the outer doors before any Aviatons could enter the holding chambers. Inside the chamber, the cloaked woman was still panicking and screaming, so security opened the inner door to let her out and into the arms of medical personnel. When the inner doors opened, the cloaked figure emerged and removed their robes, revealing that the entity was not human. The entity that they had let into the city was a new kind of Aviaton (See attached photos). The Aviaton immediately killed the medical personnel nearby and attempted to sabotage the door controls for the Traveler Gate. The emergency and tampering programs for the controls sealed all doors and prevented sabotage. Once the sabotage failed, the Aviaton began attacking anyone nearby. It is reported that twelve people were killed, with five others injured, before security used electronic disabler rifles to bring it down. The subdued Aviaton was disarmed and all appendage motors were disabled. The Aviaton was then brought into our labs for study. Edit: Recent reports from the attack mention that the Aviaton was still screaming and crying for help in the woman voice as it was killing people. Even as the electric disablers were bringing it down, security say it was still screaming in a distorted voice.

The Aviaton was brought into researching chamber 12 for further study. Interrogations were held to try and get the Aviaton to talk, but after hours of questioning and study, we have come to the conclusion that these are just recordings. The voices and sounds it was making was not human speech intelligently written by a computer, but a recording being used by a machine in order to get inside. In short, this Aviaton does not understand human language, rather, it was using sounds that it had heard to try and get inside like others had. It was mimicking us. It is unknown where these recordings were made and who the person is that is making the sounds. But it is clear this is a Aviaton built to try and take advantage of our Traveler Gates. New protocols are being made and will be sent to security so that this incident does not occur again. Further studies will be made on the Aviaton (Codename: Parrot)

Remember this is high security. No one is to know of this. We have told the public that it was a Bladeback that forced itself in due to a glitch.

Dear Thomas Aldwin,

I have read your e-mail and have to say, are you out of your fucking mind? You are seriously mad that we lied to the public about the Parrot? Do you not understand what will happen if we tell the people that this Aviaton exists? I understand that you do not like lying to the people, and believe me, I don't like it either. But this is for the greater good. Take a moment to really think about what would happen if we told people that an AVIATON posing as a HUMAN got into the settlement. Do you think people would be rational about this? Don't you remember your debacle with the idea of sealing off all Traveler Gates permanently? Lost their fucking minds they did, said we were taking away freedoms and were trying to contain them. We opened them back up, and how many people actually use the fucking things? Almost everyone is content to sit behind the walls all safe and sound, but the sheer idea of removing this freedom was just too much for them. I'll tell you what will happen, people will assume that these things are going to become more human. Sounds stupid doesn't it. Well that is the public for you. But in their minds, a humanoid Aviaton will mean that they may start going closer and closer to human designs. And then soon they will look like us and act like us. People will start to get the idea that some people may actually be androids built to infilitrate us and then BOOM we got a panic on our hands. And this will happen, let me tell you that. Think people are above this? Do remember we just imprisoned a man for throwing an infant over the wall to appease the iron gods. And that an entire cult has been found to worship these things as vessels for a new age or some bullshit. People panic. That is a thing. We are doing a service by not telling them, so keep your trap shut.

Personal Issuess in the Workplace

To Researching Personnel

Unfortunately it seems that we need to address an issue that has come up recently. To say it flat out now, we are researchers and it is our job to look past grudges, emotions, desires and petty needs in order to serve the people we have sworn to protect. To stray from this promise is to get in the way of research and to sabotage our means of learning more about our enemy. We believed that this message was clear when everyone signed on, but it seems it was not for some. Recently, researcher (NAME REMOVED) took it to himself to destroy the Parrot Aviaton that we were studying. With the required security codes and high level clearance, he had entered the research chamber holding the Aviaton had used a high voltage cable to fry its head case and all electronics inside. Security apprehended him as he was using a heavy tool to bash the burnt head in. Apparently the constant womanly screaming of the Aviaton reminded him of his late wife, who had been killed during an Aviaton assault. He somehow got in his head that the voice it was using was hers. The constant screams seem to have broken him and he took it upon himself to silence them. And he also personally chose to wreck our one specimen that would give us an insight on this new species. The loss of this new Aviaton will set us back, as we did not have enough time to thoroughly study it. So in his revenge, (NAME REMOVED) also wrecked potentially valuable data and discoveries, that may have given us answers on the Aviaton threat. (NAME REMOVED) has been relieved of his duties and will prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Please take note that this behavior violates almost every piece of paper you guys signed before accepting this position.

Edit: I am fully aware that people were getting freaked out by the Aviaton's constant screaming, but the voice box needed to be left intact for further study. Please remember that these are just machines, not living creatures. This is no different then your oven or microwave going off, so don't let this stuff bother you. And don't even try to put this under psychological stress, our e-mails get flooded with this stuff and most of it is just you guys trying to get extra vacation time. We are professionals people, enough of these childish antics.
