Description The Drifters were created by the Gods of Dawn, constructions of flesh that were built to serve as they constructed reality. They are one of their earliest creations, as the Drifters were birthed after the cosmos was expanded and stars were ignited to begin the creation of life. Drifters are enormous entities, with their bodies ranging from the size of a city, to that of a moon. The tentacles that dangle from their forms can extend for miles, dwarfing their own massive bodies. Though fearsome in appearance, Drifters are not aggressive creatures. They just do what their name suggests: drift. They drift through the void of space, trailing their long tentacles as they float. The tentacles are coated in super adhesive hooks, which snare anything it touches, even particles of space dust. Things that collide with their tendrils are ensnared, and then rearranged on a molecular level. This particle rearrangement turns any substance or object into a type of liquid, which then flows up the tentacles and is absorbed into the body. The whole purpose of this is to conserve resources that must be used to run and maintain the universe. Particles and molecules are precious commodities to the Gods of Dawn, so they collect all excess and waste so they can continue creating and building. Drifters are sent into empty areas of space so that they may collect scattered debris and particles from the expansion and bring it to their masters for reconstitution. When a Drifter is full, one of the Gods will appear to collect. The Drifter will vomit the liquid from their top maw into the waiting orifices of the God, expelling every molecule it has collected. Once emptied, the God will leave and the Drifter will continue its collection duties.

When the Gods of Dawn were banished, the Drifters were sent into the void with them. Now living in the space between realities, Drifters still float about to collect every scrap they can. Any molecule or errant piece that makes its way into the void. But this time, the liquid is used so that the Gods of Dawn can build an army to reclaim their universe. Occasionally the Gods of Dawn can exert massive amounts of power to open a brief hole into reality, punching through the layers. They will send out Drifter tentacles to snag anything near the portal. Whatever is caught is hauled in and broken down, stolen from the universe so they can build. These portals last only seconds, and is extremely costly to the Gods' energy. These instantaneous black holes are only formed once every century, as it takes that long for the Gods to recharge their strength to bend the walls of reality.

Though passive, the Drifters will be used when the great battle for existence begins. The Gods of Dawn will send their creations into populated solar systems, so they may snare entire planets. These planets that are captured in their tentacles will be reduced to mush and slime, transforming billions of lives into mere soup. This will help the Gods of Dawn build more troops as the war rages on.

There is legend of a Drifter that was not banished with the Gods of Dawn. It is said it drifts at the very edge of the universe, following its obsolete programming. From the stories, they say it is as long as an entire solar system, and is capable of snaring stars in its arms. Though massive in size, the new Gods leave the beast alone, either because it poses no harm, or so they can research it and learn the ways of the Gods of Dawn.

Excellent concept! Really spooky and fits very well in your astro-theology.
