Description
Fuming you strode down the hall your anger rolling off of you in waves as you made your way to the library. “Step down" my ass. Oh, I’ll step down all right. Right on your fucking toes you arrogant freak,” you grumbled angrily. Pushing through the Library doors you stride back to your corner of the library slamming your books down onto the table right by your best friend, Fujita Saika.
“God I want to slap that superior look right off his face,” you huff out. Dropping your book bag onto the floor you continue to pace back and forth wearing a hole in the carpet.“Oh hello Saika-chan, how are you today?” Saika turns left pretending to be you, “Oh I’m great [Name]-chan, arigatō for asking,” she replies to her own question sarcastically.
Wincing you sheepishly smile at her taking a seat across from her, “Gomenasai Saika-chan, how are you today?” You earnestly question, “I’m wonderful, and how are you [Name]-chan?” She questions closing her book Saika slides it to the side knowing that this is going to be a long rant.
Huffing you deflate into the chair, “Well he asked me to step down again,” you grumble out. Scrunching her nose Saika crosses her arms, “So, just ignore the little shit,” she flippantly replies, “You have done it in the past, why is it so hard now?” She questions leaning forward on her elbow.
“Because the bastard is in every one of my AP classes, and he has approached me after every class, everyday asking me. No, telling me to step down,” you scowl a sour expression on your enraged face.
See, you and Akashi Seijūrō had a constant rival going on ever since you started at Rakuzan High freshman year. Akashi was also a little bit bitter, no let’s try down right pissed off that you were selected President for Student Council. Not to mention that you were number one in the school when it came to Academics. Well technically, you were tied with Akashi for lead. Clearly, you were on his ‘Need to be taken down’ list.
“Do you need me to punch him for you?” Saika sits up excited at the prospect of hitting the most arrogant boy in your school, Seijūrō Akashi. Snorting, you lean back sighing, “Ha. If you did that he would probably go running to his 'daddy' and have you suspended from school,” you reply bitingly.
“Would be worth it,” Saika shrugs. Exchanging glances, you both burst into laughter quickly stifling your giggles when the Librarian calls out your names telling you to settle down. Sliding your books to the side, you grab your Pride and Prejudice novel flipping it to where you left off.
“Oi, don’t you have AP Chem to work on?” Saika questions pulling her AP Chemistry book back out. “Nope finished,” you reply, quickly reading the words across the page.
“Damn, no wonder I’m second in class,” Saika makes a face. Saika was closely following in second on the Academic list, this fact clearly bothersome to Saika that she couldn’t beat the little bastard and be tied with you as number one. “It’s not that, I just have nothing better to do. Figured I would finish it now rather than later,” you shrug flipping the page. Making an ‘mhm’ noise Saika sets to work finishing her homework. Hearing the bell ring you quickly pack up your books, “Hey I won’t be able to walk home with you today, I have to meet with the Student Council after school.”
Scrunching her nose Saika pouts, “I don’t understand how you do it all and still have a social life,” she shakes her head. “Pfft you and me both,” she pokes her tongue out at your grin. “Anyways have a good one and good luck with asshole,” Saika grimaces patting your back. “Oh right,” frowning, you wave bye heading to your AP English class. Groaning, you drag your feet to class quickly picking up pace when the first bell rings indicating five minutes.
---
“Alright class, your research paper is due next week on one of the following authors provided on the list,” your Senpai calls out. Frowning you bite your lip when you don’t see Jane Austen on the list.
Would be a hell of a lot easier seeing as I have read all her books, maybe I should ask.
Quickly standing you stride to the front of the room dodging the other students, “Yes Miss. [Name]-chan?” Your Senpai questions, “Would I be able to do my report on Jane Austen?” You question crossing your fingers.
“Ahh actually a student has requested it a couple of weeks ago,” he sadly replies. Deflating, your eyes scrunch in suspicion. “Um if you don’t mind me asking, who exactly requested it?” You paste on an award-winning smile. “Unfortunately, I can’t say Miss. [Name]-chan,” he shakes his head. Deflating a bit you nod, “O-oh okay, arigatō,” you quickly bow watching as your Senpai packs up his stuff to leave. Turning around you make a face when you spot Akashi Seijūrō standing directly behind you.
“That would be me,” he replies quietly a small smirk to his face. Pasting on a fake smile you greet him as politely as you can manage without smacking him upside the head, “Oh hello Akashi-kun and goodbye,” you growl out. Stalking past him you flinch at the sound of his voice, “I wasn’t done talking to you,” he states with a calm tone an underlining warning to his voice.
Exhaling through your nose, you slowly relax your clenched fist. You flippantly reply, “Oh I didn’t realize we were talking. Well I was finished 'talking' to you, good day,” you smirk striding out of the room. Scowling you stomp down the hall towards the teacher’s lounge to hold the Student Council meeting flinching at his presence. “As I was saying, I’m unable to attend the meeting I have too-”
“Awe gee that’s a real shame, we will miss you,” you bite out hoping that he will take the hint.
“Coach the basketball team on a new drill-” Akashi continues on as if you didn’t interrupt him. Halting you turn towards him, “Listen, I really couldn’t care,” you frown in his direction watching as his lips twitch in irritation.
Excuse me? Akashi mentally jerks at your blunt retort.
“Go do your little thing, if you can’t keep up with Student Council then we will just have to select a new Vice President,” smirking at the sight of his lips tightening with irritation. “And that shouldn’t be a problem,” you tilt your head wearing a shit eating grin. “Now as President I have to be there on time. Once again bye,” you wave over your shoulder leaving him behind.
Smirking you skip down the hall feeling as if you were walking on cloud nine. You smile reminiscing about the angry look on Akashi’s face when you were selected to be President, not him, you, by the student population. Giggling a bit you push open the doors to the teacher’s lounge pulling out all the files greeting the other members as they walk in.
“So today we are going to re-elect another Vice President, seeing as ours is currently struggling to attend because of other frivolous activities,” you grin glancing around the room. “So if anyone would like to step up,” your eyes brighten as you see your other friend Rei raise his hand. “All right Rei-kun-”
“I’m here,” Akashi replies shutting the door behind him.
Trying hard not to frown in his direction you paste on a smile clenching your teeth, “Oh I thought you had to teach a drill?” You question your nose scrunching a bit in distaste as he takes a seat by you, “I will attend to that matter late, please continue,” he indicates with his hand daring you to challenge him.
Gripping the papers tightly in your hand you shuffle them on the table, “Wakatta, now that everyone is here,” you can’t help but further provoke him, “Today we will be talking about the upcoming dance,” a genuine smile appears on your face as the other student council members become excited.
“We have selected a few dates that we need to vote on to make it official. The first one is-”
“A dance?” Akashi drawls. You cringe, turning to address Akashi you arch your eyebrow, “Yes, we discussed it at the previous meeting that you were unfortunately unable to attend. Do YOU have a problem with it?” You take in his bored expression watching as his eyes flash in anger at that reminder.
“No, none at all,” he trails off staring at you.
“Fantastic, as I was saying the following dates are Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines-”
“How about a masquerade?” He interjects leaning forward slightly Akashi rest his elbows on the table wearing a knowing smirk that he is pissing you off.
“Yeah!”
“That sounds awesome!”
“Do you know how much fun that would be?”
Multiple voices chime in with enthusiasm, furrowing your brows you glance around the room surprised at the enthusiasm.
“It can be on a Friday held at the school’s gym and at the end there can be a revealing of who everyone is,” Akashi continues smirking a bit at the excitement.
Deflating a bit, that you hadn’t thought of that, you reluctantly ask, “Is that what everyone would like?” You question trying hard not to flinch when you feel his superior gaze burning a hole on the side of your face at everyone’s compliance.
Sighing internally you nod, “Wakatta, so Friday October thirty-first a school Masquerade will be help in Rakuzan High gym at seven?”
You question receiving multiple nods, “Does anyone want there to be a theme? Or?”
“A Halloween theme of course,” Akashi replies as if talking to a child. Clenching the paper between your hands you grin tightly, “Of course, why didn’t I think of that?” You tilt your head quickly cutting him off, “So we need to come up with a way to pay for this dance, the school will not fund all of it,” you call out watching as they slightly deflate.
“Oh! We can sell baked goods, and spread the word about a potential dance. I’m sure most of the students would chip in,” the treasurer Yuuka offers up. Nodding you grin becoming a little excited about it yourself, “That’s a great idea! Any other suggestions?”
“How about a raffle ticket? Charge everyone a dollar for a ticket and they can win a prize at the end?” Saki comments shyly. “That kind of defeats the purpose of raising money, you just lose it,” Yuuka replies.
You nod agreeing with Yuuka, “It was a good idea Saki,” you grin trying to cheer her up. “Oh or charge everyone a dollar to get the chance to throw a pie in the Senpai’s face!” Jun calls out causing the room to chuckle. “I’d do that,” Rei the treasurer grins.
“What about candy grams?” Aya offers up, blushing at the attention. “Like Halloween candy grams, charge everyone a dollar to send a chocolate to someone they like,” she flushes at the sound of cheers going up around the room. “That’s a great idea Aya!” Yuuka grins encouragingly Aya flushes underneath the praise of the room.
“Or a basketball tournament against the Senpai’s,” Akashi comments, causing everyone to turn towards him. He smirks a little at the attention, “Charge students two dollars to see Rakuzan High basketball team go against the Senpai’s.”
He leans back waiting for a reply grinning wider, everyone smiles excitedly. Humming you look towards Yuuka, “You’re getting all of this right?” Yuuka nods, “All right here,” she holds up the paper. “Wakatta, now lets vote on which ones. We can’t do them all,” smiling softly at the sound of several groans. A couple minutes later and the votes are in for the fund raising ideas.
“All right, I will check with the Senpai’s tomorrow to make sure that the dance is a go and that these three fund raising idea’s are okay. Then I will let you all know Friday and we will decide from there who is taking care of what. Once we get the funds raised, we will start to assign people to the decoration committee, and make a list of food suggestions,” glancing around the room avoiding Akashi’s gaze.
“Meeting adjourned, we will meet back here Friday. Come up with a list of people that you know who are reliable and would be willing to help out,” you call out watching as they exit the room chatting loudly. You smile gathering up the papers around the room you glance down at the three fundraising options that you need to get approved by the Senpai’s first.
Frowning at the last one when it brings a certain someone to mind, semi pissed at yourself that you didn’t come up with the idea of the Masquerade in the first place.
Glancing down at the list you walk towards the door bumping into someone, “Oh gomenasai,” you reply frowning you look up to see Akashi still present. He stares at you blocking your way out, “Can I help you?” You ground out trying to get past him, “I’m waiting,” he replies. Arching your eyebrow your mouth drops open when you realize what he is asking.
“Excuse me,” you grunt trying to move past him. Akashi steps to the side blocking you, “You have got to be kidding me,” placing your hands on your hips you stare back at him watching as his brows furrow. A frown makes it’s away upon Akashi’s lips as he stares back into your eyes.
Glowering you shove him to the side, “If you don’t mind, I have places to be and you’re preventing me from locking the door,” you scowl in his direction watching as his frown deepens. Akashi tilts his head staring at you.
“All righty then,” you toss the keys at him, “Lock up, since you’re so keen of spending the night in the teachers lounge. Don’t lose them,” you call out striding down the hall.
---
Arriving back at school the next day you fill Saika in on the details that went down in the meeting yesterday, “Ooh a masquerade!” She squeals shushing her you glance around to make sure no one is listening. “Hush, this is to be kept quiet. I haven’t asked the Senpai’s yet so it isn’t official,” you reply giggling at her enthusiasm.
“God this is going to be amazing!” She grins clutching her books tighter to her chest. Smiling you nod, “You know you shouldn’t be telling everyone,” a familiar voice comments from your left. Immediately frowning, you slam your locker closed turning around to face Akashi, “Akashi,” you trail off.
Glancing to your right you see Saika staring with disdain at Akashi he stares down his nose at her, “If you will excuse us Fujita-san we have things to discuss,” Akashi verbal dismissal of Saika like a slap in the face.
Bristling Saika opens her mouth stepping forward her hand clenched, “Yes?” He arches his eyebrows, turning you pull her to the side out of ear shot, “Please, as much as you want to punch him in the face and as much as I would like to see that. I really don’t want my best friend suspended,” you try to calm her down, watching as she deflates a little.
“Fine, but the next time he speaks to me in that degrading tone, I can’t promise anything,” she scowls. Smiling you hug her, “I’ll see you at lunch,” receiving a nod Saika scowls in his direction taking off. “What do you want?” You question turning back around irritated at his disrespect towards your best friend. “Here,” he holds out the teacher’s lounge keys.
Arching your eyebrows you take the keys from Akashi pocketing them, “Great, is that all?” You furrow your brows staring him down idly tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. He shakes his head no, “I will become number one in Academics and am absolute,” he comments idly.
Tilting your head you stare back at him, “All righty then, um I have a class to get too,” you pat his arm making it an obvious motion to wipe it on your skirt after you touched him, “And good luck with that,” you throw him a thumb’s up faking a smile. Turning, you shake your head, “Weirdo,” grunting you walk towards your AP Chemistry class.
---
Sighing, you stretch striding towards the cafeteria, “Oh thank god it’s lunch,” your stomach grumbles. Flushing you walk into the cafeteria glancing around for Saika. Feeling your pocket vibrate you quickly glance around before reaching down to check your phone.
[Fujita Saika]: Something came up, can’t meet you at lunch. Really sorry, I’ll meet you after school!
Frowning you make a split decision to eat in the Library instead.
Grimacing you turn around you stride back out the doors unaware of the pair of eyes following you. Flipping through your worn out Pride and Prejudice book you take a bite of your apple your eyes rapidly flying across the page. Hearing the chair pull out from across you, you feel a shudder go down your spine at the familiar and unwanted presence. Hearing a clearing of the throat, a tick forms at your brow.
Your eyes widen when the book is swiped from your hands. “H-Hey!” You cry out frustrated at being interrupted. Akashi props his feet onto the table leaning back he flips through the book. “The binding is awful,” he comments idly his heterochromia eye’s flit across the chapter that you’re on.
“And the sky is blue, are you done? Give me my book back,” You hold out your hand indicating for Akashi to hand it over. Glancing at you from over the book, he takes in your irritated expression. “No,” he flippantly replies. Exhaling obnoxiously, you reach across to swipe it frowning when you hit air.
“Your manners are impeccable [Name]-chan,” he frowns in your direction.
“Pfft I only use manners where they are deserved and for those I respect. Plus don’t call me by my first name,” you grumble out. Watching as his eyes flash with anger he leans forward on the table the book forgotten in his hands, “Oh? So you have no respect for me?” He tilts his head inquiring.
Odd. He muses glancing between your eyes. Snorting you throw your head back laughing, “Ha! No, of course I have no respect for you,” you drawl out, he flinches his face registering shock. Akashi frowns staring across the table at you like an unsolvable puzzle wondering why you won’t obey him. Reaching out, you successfully swipe your book back from him, “Now if you’re done bothering me you are dismissed,” you reply sitting back down. Hearing a swish of clothing, you glance up when you notice that he is gone. Smirking you wiggle back down into a comfortable position continuing your reading.
---
Two months had passed and the day had arrived for the Halloween dance. Five hours before the Masquerade and you’re panicking. Why? Because you can’t find a date, originally you were planning on going with Saika but Reo Mibuchi, an “Uncrowned King,” had asked her out three days ago.
Huffing a bit you were disappointed that she ditched you, however you were happy that Saika was asked out by her crush. On the plus side, the Senpai allowed you all to leave school early to get ready for the Masquerade at seven. Also, Akashi had been more pleasant to work with in the past two months, which was weird.
“This sucks,” a faux grin rests on your lips at the sight of Saika bounding your way. “[Name]-chan!” Saika cheers coming to a stop she smiles hugging her books, “I’m so excited Mibuchi-Senpai is going to pick me up at my house!” Saika grins her green eyes sparkling with excitement. Pasting on a smile you grin, “Awe Saika-chan! I’m so excited for you!” You squeal with Saika, wrapping your arms around her. Pulling back she frowns, “No you’re not,” Saika makes a face. Struggling to hold up your grin you grimace, “Yes I am,” you pat her shoulder awkwardly.
“I can cancel with him if you want,” Saika frowns knowing that you were hoping to go together with her. “No, no it’s okay! There will be other dances,” you grin encouragingly. Pursing her lips Saika leans forward peering into your eyes, “Are you sure?”
Saika questions her hands on her hips, laughing you wear a genuine smile, “Hai, I am. Besides he is graduating soon so this will be your only chance to dance with him,” you smirk when she blushes. “Wakatta, as long as you’re okay with it,” nodding she pulls you into a hug.
“Just save a dance for me,” you wink exchanging smiles you both giggle. “Duh,” Saika grins. “Saika-chan!” A masculine voice calls out, peering around her you spot Reo Mibuchi striding down the hall towards you all.
“Yo [Name]- chan,” he grins down at you leaning against the lockers.
“Kon'nichiwa Mibuchi-kun,” you greet shutting your locker you beam up at him. “Hey Saika-chan, uh can I walk you home?” Mibuchi grins down at her.
Saika glances at you for permission, “Don’t look at me! Besides I have to check on the gym decorations to make sure everything is ready,” you jerk your thumb over your shoulder in the other direction. “Okay,” Saika nods stepping forward she hugs you. “Good luck,” you whisper smiling at the blush on her face. Watching as Mibuchi places his hand on her shoulder, he guides her away, “Later [Name]-chan!” Saika calls out, Reo Mibuchi lifts his hand as well. Waving, your shoulders slump down when she is out of sight, sighing you blow a strand of your hair out of your face.
“Might as well check on the gym,” you muse. Turning around you make your way towards the gym passing a nearby room, “That was awfully nice,” a masculine voice calls out. Pausing you glance into the room spotting Akashi seated at a table playing Shogi.
Biting your lip you glance at the time, “Everything is in order I checked,” Akashi comments quietly at your unanswered question. His eyes still focused on the game in front of him. Teetering a bit, you shrug deciding that it wouldn’t hurt if you were in the same room as Akashi. Making your way towards him you stand by watching his solo match.
“Sit,” he commands indicating towards the chair across from him, bristling at the command you open your mouth. “You’re a stubborn woman. Sit or not it is your choice,” he comments a slight smirk on Akashi’s face as he says it. Huffing you peer at him your eyes narrowed, sighing you take a seat across from him glancing down at the board.
“I’m surprised you listened, you generally don’t obey me,” he muses. Scrunching your nose as if you ate something sour, “Obey? I’m not some servant,” you fire back crossing your arms.
Chuckling a bit at you, Akashi grins glancing up from his game briefly, “I know, you’re independent. That’s what I find interesting about you,” his eyes flicker across your face gauging your reaction to his blunt comment. Flushing you scrunch your nose, “Damn right, I am,” you reply awkwardly a little surprised that you don’t have a sharp retort.
Normally you were great at whipping back a comment that would shock Akashi causing his mask of arrogance to drop. Removing your satchel, you dropped it to your side leaning forward to observe his game. Sitting in silence for a bit you startle at his next comment, “Do you know how to play?” Akashi questions glancing up at you, making a face you nod.
“Sort of, played with my ojii-san often when I was younger. Not anymore, he passed away,” you comment your own eyes widening surprised that you shared that. “Hmm, care to play?” Akashi questions sitting back he rests his hands behind his head glancing at you his eyes softer than usual.
Biting your lip, you lean forward glancing at the board trying to remember how to play. “Uh sure,” you reply. “But you might have to teach me again,” you grimace not happy that this is something Akashi has you beaten at.
Grinning he leans forward, “Wakatta,” setting back up the tiles you and Akashi spent the entire evening playing Shogi. You managed to beat him twice however Akashi had won every game after than. Exchanging smiles and brief laughs you started to feel as if you were breaching the walls that Akashi had spent most of his life building. Surprisingly this was the most fun that you have had in a while.
