Description Another personal illustration.

It looks so simple... Then why did it take so long to complete? I really need more practice.

I used some 3D tools in Photoshop for the jewelry + some personal brushes here and there.

FabienMater In reply to Anthony-Philippeau [2013-10-23 08:09:38 +0000 UTC]

Stunning work!

It takes as long as it takes.  My mother was never a fan of doing the job fast; she taught that each job took as long as it takes.  When you rush, that's when you turn out something that is not your best.  "Something professionals never do."  Now, they might know tricks and techniques to cut down the time an inexperienced person doesn't know.  That's different.

Thank you!!
I think your mother had a good point here.
Yeah tricks, I think I'm just starting to see how I can use some of them without totally ruining the pic.

My pleasure!

Indeed.  Like most kids, I learned a few hard lessons from my parents (especially my Mother) which have become part of my own personality.  In this case, I agree, though I often watch people around here ... such talented people doing such marvelous work and so fast that it does often make me feel like I'm working too slow.  However, I have to remind myself that I am working a full time job plus a bit more and that I also have other things going on that keep me distracted or otherwise busy.

It's the trick of knowing when best to use them that really makes or breaks the picture.

I really like it. Cute outfit choice and I like her eyes. I guess you're a little rusty with the time it takes you? I do notice your love of larger bosoms has returned.

Yeah I definitely feel rusty... I've been away from the drawing table for so long, I felt kind of anxious when I got back. It's time for me to do more!

Haha you know, my female characters' body change with the mood!

Really? So you're always in a big mood?

lol I know. You just like to be larger than life.

FabienMater In reply to TheeForsakenOne [2013-10-16 08:52:21 +0000 UTC]

Haha life can be faaar bigger than this! Nature created all kind of shapes and sizes!

But I know you're teasing like you always do...

Anyways huge eyes + ultra thin waist + big and round boobs and hips don't feel real at all.
And still, thanks to the lighting and shadows, you should almost feel her breathe (I don't know if I reached this goal yet, that's why I still have to practice more).

You know, she's not bad. She's just drawn that way!

TheeForsakenOne In reply to FabienMater [2013-10-16 08:57:54 +0000 UTC]

Haha I know. I'm not blind to the variety of possible shapes.

Yeah I can't help it. You do tend to err on the side of large which is fine but I do like teasing you about it mostly because when you set out to do something small you end up doing them a couple of sizes too big.

That's true but you're pieces aren't so blatant as that. I do feel your ones are more realistic even if they've very large. They don't come across as being stuck on or fake like some do.

Yeah I'm sure she's a good girl. ^^

FabienMater In reply to TheeForsakenOne [2013-10-16 17:13:40 +0000 UTC]

You're right. I think that's tricky. Artists often have issues to create appealing characters with different kind of body/face shapes without making it look humorous/without losing their own style.

I guess that's part of the reason I did very few and rough character design sheets before I started the comic book I'm working on. There are two female characters and they don't really act like some femmes fatales. Then, I had to draw them according to their behaviour rather than aethetical preferences.

Drawing the Tina Xuan comics will be harder cause there are quite a lot of sexy girls but who should look slightly different though, and I don't mean only hairstyle and clothes.

TheeForsakenOne In reply to FabienMater [2013-10-16 17:26:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know quite a lot who basically draw the same characters. I don't think you're like that in fairness although you do have some of your preferences.

I really liked your sketches for that. They were really interesting and I think the designs really improved. Tina is still well endowed but not quite as large as you used to draw her. I think you did a great job making her very sexy but without being some kind of seductress or slutty. It's not easy for some but to be honest I didn't think it would be a problem for you. You've always had a rather classy style even if you're doing naughtier art.

That's good. Lots of sexy ladies are good and a variety too. So long as it doesn't look like you're just taking one of each stereotype. (In fairness from your practice sheets it doesn't look like that'll be an issue.)
