I also gotta say I really like that Kate is the protagonist (or at least she is the one for now), cause A) she is ugly, B) she clearly has issues with communication and large groups of people, which I find very refreshing, especially for a female lead. Even in independent comics people too often make their ladies pretty and uncomplicated. It's like the messed up, unpleasant stuff is reserved for the men and I dislike that. So I am very happy to see you breaking that pattern with Kate. She's ugly, she's complicated and she is wonderful. Moreover knowing what she is bound to become (judging from what I've seen of her before you launched Umbagog as a webcomic), I am sure she's going to have a very interesting arc.

I think of Kate as being a pretty normal person. In that she has a lot of traits I see in a lot of people and myself, both physically and mentally. Also I get pretty bugged when only male characters are allowed to have disfiguring traits and still be people and not some magic old hag or a villain or comedic creature.

Yeah, I find Kate's discomfort and less than beauty queen looks quite relatable. I feel you strongly on this. This is exactly what I am also lacking in fiction, ugly people that aren't just baddies and comic relief, especially the ladies.
(I hope I have not offended you by calling Kate ugly, I love her design and find it aesthetically pleasing, but she is not conventionally beautiful, and I love that, you did a wonderful job there)

I'm not offended (though I wouldn't call non-fictional people who look the same ugly). To me, "ugly" is a function of creating appealing asymmetry in design. This reflects reality a lot more and keeps characters from looking robotic, at least IMO. Like Rango. The pacing of that film was here and there, but the design was amazing! Far more indie than mainstream, yet it was a major motion release.

But yes I wanted Kate to be physically and emotionally relatable to folks who feel similarly. That you can get a sense of the character's insecurities just by looking at them.

Well, I think most real life people (me included) are quite ugly - which is fine. It's fiction that often makes every protagonist the same standard bland mr/mrs McAveragePrettyFace and I think - considering that almost everyone is quite ugly - making all the fictional people super pretty is silly. But it sells. So I am quite glad you are making your people various and many of them not conventionally beautiful. Like I love that redhead guy with the big front teeth on page 19, he's also ugly and he's adorable. I hope he becomes a zombie at least I would see him again

I realized that Chrysler is wearing one of my favorite color combos (pink and this sort of lime-chartreuse something). Is there a reason behind those colors in particular?
