Description
Valcyne Avath, Drow Chrono-Wizard (They/He)
Their Story: (tbc)
Growing up in the slums of Menzoberranzan, Valcyne spent their early life not much better off than a slave. They caught the eye of a lieutenant in Bregan D’aerthe while working in an entertaining establishment, who recognized the great intelligence lurking in the quiet little drow. He used his connections to spirit Valcyne away and relocate them to Skullport. There they had the opportunity to learn and discovered they had a natural affinity for magic, particularly the more esoteric area of dunamancy.
Wanting to expand their knowledge, they decided to head all the way up to the surface and travel to Neverwinter. The caravan never made it. Partway there the group was set upon by harpies, killing almost everyone and leaving Valcyne gravely wounded. They recovered slowly in nearby Leilon but lost their left arm. They spent the next several years apprenticing and acting as an assistant to a local wizard, Hilma Chulzone, and generally hiding out in her extensive library. The kind-hearted Hilma rewarded Valcyne for their service by commissioning a tinkered marvel, a beautifully enchanted prosthetic arm.
Hearing about potential artifacts of the ancient Ostorian empire being found in ruins up in Icewind Dale, Hilma encouraged Valcyne to give adventuring out in the world a try once again. Heading toward Ten-Towns they spent their time practicing magic and discovering a second fascination with artificery as they studied and tinkered with their new arm. On the road there, Valcyne was able to use their new magical talents to save the life of an orc, Sholl Bitter Brand, who gave them a magic stone as thanks.
Once there, they somehow found themselves in the company of an eclectic group of adventures and setting off on quests for various town officials. Valcyne has heard rumors of a strange ship, what they believe may be a Nautiloid, crashed out on the tundra and has found strange technological artifacts. This has only fueled their interest in tinkering and they have begun “upgrading” their arm.
