Description
Here's the completed scrap: Ben Skywalker, from the Legacy of the Force novel, Exile. Not really an illustration so much as my idea of what he's going through: having to make some difficult choices between doing what he believes is "expected of him," and what he knows in his own heart is right... The backdrop is metaphorical, representing the darkness pressing in on him--but there is still light (the shaft to his right, on his face--and within him), demanding that he consider his choices carefully... Probably a bit over the top philosophically for fanart, but there you go...

Perfect! Just what I love to hear: emotion is something I try to put into every drawing (usually because the scene or moment I'm trying to convey is emotionally charged for me), and it's great to hear it's coming through (...even if it's undefinable!). I actually DID have a model for this piece--I found it online, at a site that offers images for sale. It was the perfect pose, the perfect expression of hope and despair together, and it was ideal for this drawing of Ben. I'm glad you like this one, and truly appreciate the comments and the

This was inspired by the book narrative--it just seemed like such a lot for a young man to deal with, and I was amazed at how well Ben managed to hold up under the stress of his responsiblities and all the expectations placed on him by everyone else... There were really only one or two of the LOTF covers that I liked: one was "Tempest," with that beautiful painting of Tenel Ka and the other was "Inferno," with Luke in battle-mode, on his way to rescue Ben from Caedus. I don't know who's doing the covers for DelRey now, but I'd like to see them more in the vein of the gorgeous Japanese covers: very good likenesses, very epic and more like the old Drew Struzan posters/covers from early in the EU.

this is simply amazing.
Id like to see Bens hair a little bit spikier on top and longer on the sides, he looks almost as if he has a mohawk.
Other then that this is stunning instant face, I love teh emotion you captured in this work.

I've really come to like Ben Skywalker's character, and wanted, with this piece, to illustrate his turn away from the dark path his cousin was trying to put him on and back toward the light that was always in his own heart and soul. Wow, a very good depiction of my fav EU character. A little old maybe, but thats not my call. But yeah, that moment in Exile when he leaves the little girl to die, goosebumps, man.
It's cool to see someone being philosophical with their fanart - a snazzy pose can be awesome, but somtimes it doesn't have enough heart.

Ben is a fascinating character, I love the kid, but some of things he's done just break my heart, he's basically skipped his childhood, but he's still so naieve about the universe.
I hate Jacen for what he's done to him.
It's an excellent depiction of Ben, I love his contemplative expression. Excellent work. The lack of colour is a good choice, it makes me think that everything in the Star Wars universe is in shades of grey, nothing is flat out black and white / good vs evil anymore...
