Thanks so much! I didn't think I could do Palpatine, with all the wrinkles and creases--but it worked out! Glad you like it and thanks for ing, too!

Oh my goodness this is fantastic! Ian McDiarmid looks great, you REALLY captured his likeness in this. I'm finding out more and more that shading is the key to everything, huh? As for Anakin? No words. The expression on his face says it all. Amazing.

FalconFan In reply to DoodleGeek4Ever [2012-10-11 17:21:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you kindly! You're right in that shading can be key--having an accurate likeness in the lineart is important, too, though. Your render of Ms. Hepburn is a classic example of that (it's her, perfectly). Shading can make it more recognizable, though--and shading it incorrectly can also make it less so. Constantly referring to your reference is key (comparing both the reference and the drawing in a mirror can be very helpful, too--it makes finding mistakes really easy, so they can be corrected before you get too far along). I'm so glad you like this, and thanks so much for the lovely comment and for the added !

Thank you so much! This was a great exercise in likenesses--particularly Palpatine's, with his oh-so characteristic expressions and aged visage. It turned out far better than I had hoped, and I'm glad you like it! I very much appreciate the kind comments, and especially the !

I really love Palpatine into that scene, so retorse, so hypocrit. And Anakin's expression is unbelievable.

The reference I used for this drawing was gorgeous--very high resolution and wonderful sharpness; it allowed me to work in greater detail than I can usually capture. And yes: Palpatine was so evil here, carefully playing on Anakin's deepest fears and hopes to drive him toward the Dark Side... Thank you so much, for the kind words and for the added !

Such an amazing piece, the lines and wrinkles on Palpatine's face and the detail on Anakin's Hair is totaly unbelieveable.
I have to agree with ~Stars-are-cushions the expressions on both their faces are perfect.
One of the best Star Wars pieces I have seen on An instant

FalconFan In reply to Slayerlane [2011-06-25 23:54:28 +0000 UTC]

Palpatine's facial features were the biggest challenge here--it's a well-worn face, bearing the weight of all his dealings, both honest and in the Dark Side...I had an immensely detailed reference for it, thank goodness--otherwise, who knows! But being able to convey Palpy's not-so-covert evilness (and Anakin's furious contemplation) was the greatest challenge, and I'm glad it seems to come across. Thanks so much for the kind words, and for the added !

I can really appreciate the challenge of palpy's features, detailed reference does help but there is also a great deal of skill needed to pull it off.

I. Love. This. It's amazing. Your work is so precise and so...good! I like how Palpatine's expression is almost sympathetic, like "Poor boy...he will learn soon enough..." and Anakin looks confused and conflicted, like he was at this point. But enough of my babbling. Very, very, very amazing!

Thanks so much! I always love to see others' interpretations on mood/emotion--I believe you're right: Palpatine WAS sympathetic, but only to Anakin's confusion and uncertainty--he was also carefully observing, like an experienced fisherman, to see if he had properly "set the hook," so to speak, before properly reeling in the catch... I'm so glad you like this, and very much appreciate the insights and the added --thank you, and a very Happy New Year to you, too!

*Jerks back in seat* WOAH! Okay, this MUST be really good, because it's giving me the chills just like the scene in the movie!
I saw this movie in the theater when I was 10. This was probably not the smartest decision could have made, but I was young and innocent, I loved the original trilogy, and I wanted to see a Star Wars film in the theater. I had never seen Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones at this point, though I could practically recite the original trilogy movies word for word, so I was trying to figure out who half of the people in ROTS were and why Anakin and Padme's marriage had to be a secret. Still, it was a bad choice because I was 10 years old, very sensitive, very emotional, and had just lost my grandpa. I had never seen most of these people before, but when this scene came up, I was thinking "Oh, no..." even thought I *knew* what was going to happen. And when the scene finally came where Anakin turned, I *knew* what was going to happen, I had *just* met the character, and I still cried for him. I cried for Padme when she died. I even cried for Vader when he learned about Padme's death.
Now, 5 years later, having seen the other prequel films countless times, having seen the animated Clone Wars movie and series, and having read a few books with Anakin, I am an Anakin fan (fan, not fangirl) and find him as one of the characters I can connect to the most. This makes ROTS that much more tragic for me...I've only seen it 6 or 7 times counting the movie theater, because it still scares me and makes me sad, although I don't cry anymore. Anakin and Luke (my original hero) are two of my favorite characters (the others being Mara Jade and Galen Marek, though Anakin and Luke top the list).
You did a really good job with the likeness for Anakin, as well as really showing the emotion on his face. As for Palpatine...well, you must have done a good job, because my "revulsion meter" is maxing out right now, which always happens around him. He is my LEAST favorite character, especially because of what he did to poor Anakin.
I would definitely like to see more Anakin art from you in future.

**blushing madly**

Golly! What a great, detailed comment--thank you so much! I couldn't be more pleased that the drawing gives you the same feeling as when you saw the film--that's what I was aiming for, so it's great to hear! I, too, blubbered through ROTS--like you say: I knew where it was leading--but it was that poignant aspect of "the right reasons, but the wrong way to get there" that reduced me to tears (and sort of explains, in a way, Vader's final turn back from evil in the penultimate battle with his son in ROTJ). Too often that can happen in real life, too...

I truly appreciate your sharing all your feelings and observations--it means a lot, and thanks so much for the , too!

I know now when I watch ROTJ, Anakin's return is my favorite part, and the title kinda has a double meaning for me...as though it could mean either the return of the Jedi Knights" or the return of a *particular* Jedi. Or maybe I'm too much of an Anakin fan for my own good.
Nah, that can't be it!
Oooh, I just wanna wipe that smug look off Sidious' face! Leave my cousin alone, you creep!
Oh, yeah, I'm working on a fanfic with a character based on me who's Anakin's cousin, an she saves him from being turned. Take that, Sidious!

"you've captured Palpatine's sliminess perfectly!"

Aw, thanks! This photo, more than many of this character, showed so clearly the malevolent intent the man had toward Anakin: the way he baited him with Padme's safety, basically promising something he knew he couldn't give...thus the title. I'm glad you like it, and truly appreciate the visit and comment!
